    uxtheme patched, how to restore??

I patched my uxtheme.dll (and the other .dlls you need to patch to install and use third party themes), however, when I try and logon (using patched dlls) it never makes it to the login window, refreshing to black and flashing blue, then refreshing to black over and over, until I reboot into safe mode and 'unpatch' the .dll files using the patcher.

I tried using an alternate patcher but it says the .dlls are already patched and so it cannot patch it :s

Does anyone know how to get my original .dlls back? or original copies of the files?

Do you have 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7? I'm not sure if the files is the same in both. Either way I will try to put a copy of the dll you mention in a zip file and upload it here, then you can just replace yours with my unpatched version. I recommend making a restore point before attempting this.

If you have "windows malicious software removal" update installed, uninstall that update and try.

I'm using 32bit windows, the three files that are patched/need to be patched correctly are

    • uxtheme.dll
    • themeui.dll
    • themeservice.dll

and I patched/tried to patch them with universal theme patcher.

Unfortunately, every 7 computer in my house 64-bit and the files can't be taken directly from the 32-bit DVD, but here are my copies of the files. Like I said, make a restore point before trying to replace the originals. And you might want to make a copy of them to your desktop. It might work, it might not.

Wouldn't sfc /scannow replace the files back to the originals?

Open a Command Prompt (with administrative privileges) and run the following command: sfc /scannow

    See if that fixes it.

To everyone using these patchers, I truly suggest using a program (created by the guy who originally made these UXTheme patches) called UXStyle which runs at startup and allows use of custom themes.

    UxStyle - no more patching.

    Yes, run SFC

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
