a matter of contention with Themes

    Hi.

I got a issue with the visual aspects in windows 7.

My problems lies within the panel, appearance and personalization, a tool that handles screensavers, wallpapers, sounds, displays, which in my case works fluidly, but also visual aspects as 'themes' and 'windows glass color'. I've patched uxtheme. I've replaced dll files and explorer.exe in /windows. However I don't think appearance and personalization should look this way.

    Please help.

Does this just happen for appearance and personalization?

yeah, I believe so, I've checked just about everything on this machine. with everything I mean the devices and printers, my computer, libraries, control panel, firefox, task manager, network settings and the personalization panel. In the latter I can change sounds, screensavers, desktop and ka-blowie goes my OS everytime I press on windows glass or themes. well. it doesn't really explode but I'm forced to reboot. which in itself is a difficulty.

This issue occurred after some dumb friends tipped me on how to 'Mod your OS'. It will make your windows looks cleaner and clearer. And after viewing the results on the appearance panel I suppose they were right. Stupid ****s. Anyhow. I did as anyone would've done. I surfed the web like a frustrated surfer, found and downloaded uxtheme, modified dlls, explorer.exe plus this really nifty theme of expendables. then I did was anyone would've done. I cursed, changed permission on the required files, moved the required files to its folders, rebooted, cursed some more, patched uxtheme, applied my chosen theme and voila! I get this pop up that assures that everything is in order. Until you try to change theme.

I hope this answers your question.

It's not that it's too much. Maybe it's just that nobody has seen this yet. Using third-party themes is a pain if you don't know how to restore your system files.

A quick way to do this is to use the default Windows 7 Theme or any other pre-installed theme then open an Elevated command prompt and run the System File Checker. This will restore all the files you have replaced with the original files from Windows 7.

As a side note, you might need your Windows 7 Installer DVD/USB to restore the said files, however, I've never encountered this myself. The files were restored without the need of this.

Also, this method will require you to reboot before you see the changes.

Good luck. Let us know what happens mate.

I do warn you tho, using SFC WILL replace all your modified system files back to originals...

One thing i can come up with, have you tried any other visual styles? have they come out with the same problem?

I cannot remember the exact name of the theme .... but it is problematic. At the devianyart page wherefrom you downloaded it , read the comments . I also tasted the theme for another member, and really it was not a fine deal.

SFC will not be able to apply the appropriately, but will bring you to the default. You may run sfc to get rid of the entire customization, apply the patches again, and choose a safe theme, a lot is there
