Is There Some Way To Use My Own Picture As A Desktop Folder Icon

I remember with XP it was possible to use one of my own pictures as a desk top folder icon , can this be done with windows 7 , and if so how ?

Save your pictures as a .gif or .png file, then open that and save it as a .ico file, or I think you can also just rename it

I believe there is a recommended image size, but I do not remember what it is exactly, I think Vista supported 256x256 icons though.

right-click on the folder >> properties >> customize >> change icon

this should work, but seems a bit flaky on my machine... maybe because i've got my desktop as a shared folder?

you won't see the customize tab when viewing folders in libraries.

    Hiya pal

What you'll need to do is save your image as a png (png supports transparency - but you can use a jpg but this doesn't support transparency) like LiquidSnak says @ 256x256 pixels, but don't rename it to .ico as this won't work so well. Instead upload the png to converticon.com just follow the on screen instructions and this will convert your png file to an icon of your choice (you can adjust the size within the online prog)
Once done then you can do as mickey megabyte says
