    Window color (sic) and appearance.

I've recently gone from XP to Win. 7. Had a fair (or unfair) few problems with stuff that doesn't want to work on Win 7. My latest grouse is that I can't 'personalize' my PC as I could with XP.

I'm told that the thing only works with Windows Basic 7 or Ease of Access themes. I've set the 'Basic' up, 'Aero's' up-and-running; however, when I change the colours and font etc, via the aforementioned poxy bit-of-kit, click 'save', click 'update', the thing reverts back to 'sky'.

My saved 'favourite theme' from the XP doesn't work, natuurlijk, on Win. 7.

I swiftly disposed of all the ghastly 'Windows system sounds' and stuck my own on: my 'critical stop' is a crow cawing.

I'm well peeved not to be able to have my PC look and behave exactly how I want it to!

I'd be grateful for any and all advice.

Try this personalization panel appelet for basic.
Should give you much closer to 7 pro level personalization.
    Personalization Panel 1.2.0.1 -

Note I haven't tested this personally, I'm going on the advice of a friend with this.

    Bah!

I downloaded the said software, swiftly, only to be told that my version of Windows & (Home Premium) is not supported. I suppose that I should have mentioned what version I had in my original message.

Thanks for the help, though, chief; all looked very promising before the last... click.

    Clunky buttons fol-de-rol.

Managed to actually use the blamed thing to change my colours etc.; however, the only theme it works with is Windows Classic - which is rather archaic and clunky and not really much in the way of progress, methinks, as my PC now appears to be even more 'Beta Max' than the old (sadly missed...) XP.

Just google windows home basic personalization.

You will find the right thing eventually.
There are many different versions of it.

    Your problem is home basic...
it's not really worth much I always aim for pro and above.

    Basically premium

My version is listed as 'Home Premium, not 'Home Basic'. Here's what's said on the official, US, Windows 7 themes page:

Note: Windows 7 themes can only be used in Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate editions.

As the 'Home Premium' is, admittedly at the bottom of the table, mentioned in the same sentence as its illustrious betters, well, it not do what it is supposed to do?
