I'm fairly certain the problem isn't a virus as this started when I wiped the free space, but I'm scanning now and will post results for that soon.

My computer has 8GB of RAM, so I'm not sure about that either.

The reason I stopped the free space wipe was because I first had a popup saying I was running out of memory and when I opened My Computer the C: drive icon was red, showing that I only had about 50GB left. Of course now the memory is all back where it was prior to the wipe.

Is there any way I can download the Windows 7 installation disk off the internet and somehow use the current key I have for the Windows 7 I have now with the downloaded copy, so it doesn't come back saying it is not genuine?

Yes, people do it all the time.

You have a legitimate product key.

Do a Repair Install If you can.

If not , then you can try a clean install.

I don't have the product key since Windows 7 came pre-installed. How would I go about finding my key?

It is on the machine - sticker on the side of the case- some times in the battery compartment under the batteries.

Or google - "product key sticker whatever your model is"

Oh yes, I see it. And this will work for an instillation copy I download online somewhere?

    See my reply above #12.

Your key will work with any valid win7 installation dvd/iso.

They all have all the editions on them .

For "somewhere" - see my second reply from 17 hours ago.

Slightly easier if you get one that says Home Premium Edition

It is also quite easy to get any of the others to install Home Premium.

You mean this: Download Windows 7 ISO (Official 32-bit and 64-bit Direct Download Links) « My Digital Life ? I looked at the repair install and it says that you cannot do a repair install using a slipstream windows 7 installation disk. What is that?

It is made by getting an iso that is only SP0, then putiing the SP1 service pack into it.

    Bit of a pain.

Just get one that already has SP1.

It said in the repair install guide that they cannot be used. I just want to make sure burning a copy of windows onto a disk isn't a slipstream disk. Thanks
