Vista personalize folder on Windows 7 and Theme problems
Quick intro: I tried a few programs awhile back and now my Personalization folder is screwed up and looks like Windows Vista's despite the fact that I'm running Windows 7. The link to Themes does nothing so I can't change them (and, as a side effect, can't set the wallpaper to change automatically or anything like that). Below is a (hopefully) very detailed explanation.
I tried a few programs from WinCustomize. The programs worked well but were only trials and when they ran out I didn't buy the full version. Since then (I think it's since then. It's been awhile. I'm only trying to fix it now because I'm giving my laptop to a family member) my Personalization folder has been messed up. I recently realized that when I go to Personalize from the desktop (or elsewhere), the Windows Vista Personalization folder opens. The problem with that, as the title suggests, is that I'm running windows 7. I can't figure out how to get it to revert to the Windows 7 Personalization folder.
Another problem is that I can't change my theme because when I click Theme in Personalization nothing happens. I literally get no response whatsoever.
I also just now figures out that if I go to Windows Color and Appearance, I get an error, "There was a problem loading a pre-set color" and despite the folder opening and giving me a few option, they don't actually have an effect on anything. When I click "Open classic appearance properties for more color options" it opens Personalization in a new window.
The other options in Personalization seem to work fine. "Seem" because I haven't looked in depth to see if they have problems, but they all open fine and look roughly correct.
The programs I tried that affect themes are: Deckscapes, WindowBlinds, and I tried DreamScapes but I don't think that affects themes, however, it may affect the Personalization folder.
Things I've tried: Restart (obviously...), manually restart Themes service, installed a new theme (seemed to install fine but I can't get to it to change it), made a new user account (had the same problem). (Note: my disk drive is broken so repairing and what-not from a disk isn't possible.)
I'll try booting into Safe-Mode and see if that has any effect (I don't even know if themes can normally be changed in Safe-Mode but I'll give it a shot). For the record, the default theme is applied and working well. Aero is working as well as everything else to do with themes except that I can't get to the page to change them. I'm assuming my main problem is that Personalization is screwed up. As far as I know, Vista didn't have a Themes page so I figure it may be that when I click Themes it simply doesn't know what it's supposed to do since it's running the Vista Personalization page.
I don't know what else to try so any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post but I wanted to provide as much detail as possible to avoid any problems that would have been fixed by simply giving more information...
I'll attach a screenshot to give a visual example showing that this is in fact Windows 7 and what Personalization looks like.
