Cannot open any folders after patching theme files

    Hey everybody,

I just did some patching to the following files:

    uxtheme.dll, shsvcs.dll, and themeui.dll

I also noticed that one of these programs let me patch the themeservice.dll, which i also patched...

Now, after restarting, I see the new theme perfectly on the taskbar and start menu. But whenever I open a folder or zip, it just won't open. Opening pictures, Office, and other programs works.

I'm back using the Basic theme from Win7 since the new theme didn't work.

I don't know which build I have and what other info you need from me...let me know!

Once you have patched those files you are pretty much hosed. you cant just replace them, or undo it. If I were you I would start with a repair install, that might do the trick without having to re-install.

    Good luck to you mate

    hey thanks for replying...

I seem to have no problem when I unpatched those.. I just replaced those patched files with the original ones that i backed up right before the patching process... i now have the original theme back...
my question though is when my new theme shows up after patching, i am unable to open any folders... programs work flawlessly... i just am unable to open "my computer", "my documents", zip files, and any other windows-related folders...

If all else fails, try a system restore... if it still doesn't fix it, do as zigzag suggested and repair install... Personally, I use uxstyle so I don't need to patch any system files for theming... (of course I've changed the explorer.exe, explorerframe.dll, shell32.dll for my custom look of choice) =)

why do i need to do system restore? i mean it's works fine when i went back to basic... i'm just wondering why i'm unable to open any folders when i'm on the new modified theme... i did everything accordingly to the readme instructions, and i'm still unable to open anything... new theme appears fine, i can open 3rd party programs, but whenever i open folders, the taskbar flashes for a blink of an eye and won't open the folder... "as if nothing happened"
