    May I please apply my .Theme file from XP to Win7?

    Since having to replace my XP tower with a Win7pro one, I've been trying to apply the .Theme file from my old hard drive to no avail. I get the message I can't apply it to my Windows 7 desktop, and can neither find a way to check its settings. After pasting it into the Windows/Resources/Themes folders, it still doesn't appear in the control panel. I'd be so happy if only I could at least salvage the textured wallpaper I had as I've found nil remotely resembling it. Is there anybody out there who can please assist me with applying it to Windows 7?

    Many, many thanks!

    Forget it, it's not usable in win7. You can open the blabla.theme in notepad and see what's in. There is a line like:

    BackgroundImage=C:\somefolder\yourbackground.jpg

    So the background image is really C:\somefolder\yourbackground.jpg

    Welcome to the Seven Forums

    I see your post here also Transfer old Windows Classic display theme to Windows 7 machine?

    I can help get the .theme to work but I think the wallpaper will be in the XP tower.
    Zip up your .theme file and post it here and I will look at it.

    Wallpaper Woes

    Thank you both so dearly for your help! I found the two wallpaper images I haven't had to live w/o for the past decade up until now. They're .bmp files from my old hard drive, but become a fuzzy blur when I set them as my desktop background. Please pardon my naïvety, but is the procedure for setting a .bmp image as desktop wallpaper supposed to be this painful? After successfully accessing my .Theme settings through Notepad, I think I can tweak a comparable theme out of Win7 if my wallpaper would just set now w/o distorting all over my screen.. Is there a simple solution to this problem? I've zipped both these .bmps up together and am posting them here in hopes you can assist me with this as well..

    I appreciate any pointers you have for me a great deal--thank you kindly again and again!

    All you have to do is set the wallpaper to TILE, rather than stretch to fit the screen.

    Also those images are real small, 1 is only 160 x 160 pixels and 2 is 256 x 256 pixels you should try to find images that are closer to your screen resolution.

    MissT, download this zip file to your desktop.
    Right click it and choose "Extract here" using WinZip or 7-zip.
    Copy & Paste both the MissT folder + the 2 MissT_1.theme + MissT_2.theme files to...
    C:\windows\Resources\Themes
    Apply & enjoy.
