    Aero Theme Disabled

Logged on today to find that my themes have changed to basic from aero by itself. System restore fixed the problem however every time I restart it changes back to basic.

When I click troubleshooting>display aero desktop effects it says I need to upgrade the edition of windows. Why would I need to do this when it was working before? I have a genuine copy of windows.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated,

    Thanks

    Hi and thanks,
That's a pretty odd card to be using on a system that good :/
    GT640 ?
I have that card and it's working well but my system in general is crap :)

I'd ask are you using the NVidia driver from windows updates or NVidia utility ?
I show Driver 347.52 from windows update which is also viewable in programs and features/ uninstall a program
Can you confirm the driver your using
    Cheers.

An old friend made the computer for me a few years ago and I've recently updated the SSD drive myself. I mainly use this computer for poker therefore he probably thought that I wouldn't require a high spec graphics card. Would you recommend getting a new one and if so which one?

GeForce experience updates automatically and I can confirm that I'm also using 347.52.

    Thanks,
Well I can tell you this is not the most cutting edge driver or card available but is I guess certified or tested by Microsoft to be safe for windows,

You might remove it and try the onboard graphic's port to see if the issue persists.
Seems your onboard graphic's is just as good as the gt640 which mine is only a 1 gb card but then again my onboard graphic's suck :)

My concern is troubleshooting report, as it says its not supported on this windows edition however it had been for many years previously. Why wouldn't the graphics card be good enough all of a sudden for aero theme?

    Hi,
    I don't know that one,
Could be a failing card ?
Pretty much why I said to remove it and run windows updates to see what updates come up possibly one or two for your chip

Also how did you re-install windows Clone or simply reloading the install disk ?

ok, removed all NVIDIA programs, restarted, windows update, installed 1 program (NVIDIA 347.52), re-rated WEI and got the same scores.

I simply reloaded using the install disk, back in October and has been fine up until now.

    Hi,
I meant remove the card from the machine
Although you don't need the NVidia experience utility to update windows will provide the drivers as you just received
But you need to remove the card completely
These cards disable onboard graphic's and use the cards graphic's instead

Possibly you can get your friend to remove the card for you if you don't feel good doing it they are really easy to remove one screw after taking off the side panel,
