    Personalize Windows Colors Issues

When clicking on "Window Color" (below the box showing the Themes in "Personalize" mode) a new smaller window pops up called "Windows Color and Appearance." This looks like the very same window that goes way back to earlier editions of Microsoft Windows. There is a statement in that window that says (and I paraphrase) that the colors shown can only be applied in the "Windows 7 Basic" and the "Windows Classic" modes.

An earlier post by "Brink" indicates that it actually only works in "Windows Classic" mode. That agrees with my experience.

I would love to use the old familiar Classic theme, but I have a problem with it: In Classic theme (in Windows 7), when two Explorer windows are open simultaneously, the Selected Items in both the Active Window and the Inactive Window are highlighted with the exact same color, even though different colors are assigned in the Windows Color and Appearance" window. I have occasionally inadvertently deleted the selected item in the Inactive Window when I wanted to delete the Selected Item in the Active Window.

By the way, the Windows Classic Theme works perfectly in Windows Vista.

Does anyone have a solution for this bug, perhaps a registry fix?

Thank you for any assistance you may have to offer.

Welcome to Seven Forums BarryE. I think no replies as no one has the answer. Few use the Classic themes, so such issues receive less "workarounds". I saw (and found) a long discussion of this "bug", with interesting information, but no "fix"

It seems to come down to how Classic handles the color highlighting. I have searched for this before, and found suggestions stemming from Classic Shell (mentioned in linked discussion), 3rd party explorer alternatives, etc. But no workaround for actually using Classic and Windows Explorer, sorry. Just posting so you know you are not being ignored, and that, to me at least, there is no known easy fix. A Guy
