Hello

I have 2 PC's, I want them to at least see each other to give me something to work with, but they don't...

PC 1: (Win 7) (PC1 in MSGROUP)
Card A - used to receive internet via cable; "Work" network type, gets IP automatically, restricted to this specific MAC
Card B - used for crossover cable; "Unidentified network" network type.
IP: 192.168.137.1 (later on i will try to share internet connection so Win7 will change IP to this afterall)
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Rest blank

PC 2: (Win XP SP3) (PC2 in MSGROUP)
Card C - used for crossover cable;
IP: 192.168.137.2
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Rest blank

Pings timeout on both machines, i also virtually have no idea if they even see themselves. I tried 2 different Crossover cables.

Hi

Can you confirm the following:

On the Windows 7 PC:

From within the Network and Sharing Center, select Change advanced sharing settings, ensure the following are set:
  • Network discovery - turned on
  • File and printer sharing - turned on
  • Public folder sharing - turned on
  • If this is a restricted network, you can turn Password protected sharing off
Do you have a user account with the same name and password on both machines?

If you reboot your PC, can you see the two PC's within My Computer/Network?

The next thing to check is have you selected any folders on either PC to be shared?

On your XP PC

Go to My Network Places and check that you can see the shared Win 7 folder?

I assume that your network settings are as I listed?

Yes, you do need to create a user with the same name and password on both PC's. Try the other actions after you have created the users.

OK so i finally made it working (it seems that Ethernet card in PC2 had issues since i switched to built-in and it works (at least they see each other and that's big).

Now i have lesser issue because Card B is Unidentified and have no internet connection even if i check "Share connection" on Card A (i cant use bridge btw)

Edit: Connections seems working after 3 hours tinkering :) thanks for help!
