8 BSOD since 22 Jan (fltmgr,ntkrnlpa,ntfs, halmacpi & CI) I am stumped

I have been trying to help my 82 year old father deal with these irritating but not disastrous BSOD faults but I have failed.

The machine is a relatively new build and I have run memtest with no problems being reported. I have also cloned the OS to a new SSD from the previous HDD.

Any further ideas would be most welcome

You will need to do a more thorough RAM test using MemTest86+ - run it for a minimum of 8 passes, typically overnight, or until you see any errors appear.

Thank you for the quick response

Prior to the Hard Disk clone I had run Memtest overnight as a memory error seemed to be the most obvious answer. However the test ran with NO errors at all. However if dmp files are pointing to a memory error I will rerun the test again - no harm in trying!

OK - so ran Memetest86+ yesterday afternoon and all night (17 hours > 20 passes) and had zero errors

Any further ideas?

OK - I have run the CPU stress test on my fathers i5-3570K (TCase 67.4 C) and have been unable to finish it as it reaches 67 C after two passes at which point I stop the test.

This may be the reason for his BSoD but given that it the BSoD only happens randomly and sometimes when he is not using the PC do you think a bad CPU / cooling is the problem?

It could be. I think the best thing to do now is reseat the CPU cooler, taking care to clean off the old thermal paste and applying new paste again.

Having rebuilt the PC again I noted something in the Action Centre - paraphrased as "BIOS incompatible with CPU" (this had been archived before by my dad I think). I reflashed the BIOS and Hey Presto - problem solved
