acronis just failed me. What's an easy backup scheme?

So, If I get this right (correct me if I'm wrong) you have an image (a .tib file) of your Windows (7 I imagine) and you want to move that image to another drive.

If so so just copy the Tib file and paste it were you want.

If you want to restore the .Tib image to that partition and use it as a boot drive from a drive that already has a boot section, well that's different.

Which is it? Is it what the colonel thinks?

Copy paste the .tib of the (win7) image to an "empty" partition and make that partition bootable from the backed up image.

OK,

You need to create an Acronis Rescue Media. You boot with CD, get your image from the original area or put it on another drive (not the particition that will serve as Boot drive). You can't install an image to it's destination folder.

You need to format partitons that have an MBR or you will get errors.

That isn't how it works at all. The image can be mounted, but is not bootable in this fashion, not least because it's fairly highly compressed by default.

It's a good idea to verify archives after creating them, and if an archive later reads as corrupt then you can be pretty certain it's down to disk errors and remedy the issue.

I'd stick with the 2010 5xxx build too. There have been many bugs reported with its successor in other forums of late.

Regards the OP's points I haven't actually noted the image was proven conclusively corrupt, but it certainly cannot be decompressed onto a partition or drive which may be less than its uncompressed size.
