I hope this is the correct forum for this topic?
Whilst I am shown as the administrator on my computer, when I try to copy files to my external hard drive, I am told I do not have permission to copy files to this drive. For permission, see the administrator.

Can someone please tell me, how do I give myself permission?

Agree to what richc46 said: you may want to gain ownership/permissions on the folders you're trying to copy files into.

I'm having the same problem with an external drive of mine which was first used under XP, then under 7, then after I re-installed the OS (main disk failure) still under 7 but with a different user: now and then UAC asks me to authenticate when I try to rename/move/delete a file that was already there before I last re-installed the OS.
Never tried gaining ownership on the entire disk though, I might well give it a try

May I also Suggest that you try with the System Administrator

   Warning

This is a True Administrator and can cause harm to your computer if the account is used Inappropriately

   Note

That you should NOT use this account for Personal use as all files are run as Administrator
