Adobe Flash keeps crashing

RealGem

New member
This has been happening ever since the latest Adobe Flash update about a week ago.

I have put up with it each time, as it was always when I made a video full screen. But once I refreshed the page and didn't use full screen, it was ok.

But I didn't realise that Ebay's Final Hour Countdown feature is flash based, so it does not work anymore. And THAT is important for snipers like me!

So how do I fix it please?

thank you

Uninstall the flash player, Download the 11.3.300.250 beta 3 from the right side listings of older versions of the page Download Flash Player 11.3.300.257 (Non-IE) 64-bit - FileHippo.com (adobe's pagewill give the recent one only, most probably). Install it.

Keep auto update of flash player stop until the next stable version releases.

Edit: I assumed that you use a browser other than IE ... if you use IE, follow this link : Download Flash Player 11.3.300.257 (IE) - FileHippo.com .

Hi Arc,

I uninstalled the latest version and clicked on the version 11.3.300.250 like you said, but when I clicked the download link (top right) I got this page:

2yzirrl.png

I also got the same page for the beta 2 version under it, but was successful with Flash Player 11.3.300.214 Beta 1 (Non-IE) 64-bit.

5p2685.png

Will that be ok? Or does it definitely have to be version 11.3.300.250 Beta 3?

thanks

Also I was not given an option to stop auto updates. How do I do this please?

thanks a lot

Yes, any working older version will be nice, and including that one you obtained.

The stop auto update option should be there in the installer's window, or in the update pop-up. If the "r300.257 wants to install once again, dont let it to be installed. Skip this version, I guess the next one will be available within a few days.

Very nice to know that your trouble is gone :D

Hi,

Sorry I have had to mark this as unsolved again, as it has started happening again.

I looked at Task Manager and there are TWO adobe flash processes running. I don't understand why that is.

And the bigger one is sometimes even overtaking Firefox itself as the number one resource user.

I have not installed another version BTW. I still have version 11.3.300.214 Beta 1 (Non-IE) 64-bit.

I have found this page
Adobe Forums: Flash Player 11.3.300.257 Keeps Crashing On Mozilla Firefox 13

...that shows lots of other people have problems with it. I don't fully inderstand what the Adobe Employee is saying, but from what I can see he is making people jump through an awful lot of hoops - and none are working!

Some of the troubleshooting involves having to register at their site and submit bug reports, but they don't tell you how. They are also suggesting using a different browser. I can understand this from a diagnostic POV but not permanently. That's unacceptable!

It seems to be suggested that the problem exists because there are TWO Flash players on people's systems. But they tell you if you uninstall one, it will uninstall both!!

I'm really confused and fed up!

Any ideas please?

thanks a lot

Using the Firefox help site, the recommendation is to back date to Flash version
11.2 rather than any 11.3 version. I had the same problem (Flash 11.3 does not completely install) and followed the Firefox help links to remove 11.3 and install 11.2.
Crashes stopped.

There are several other sites recommending reverting to Flash 11.2.0.235. We did this and all is well with Firefox 13.0.1 on Win7 machines. I fully agree with NOT allowing auto-download and install.
May I also suggest that you look at your Java installation. Some folks allow it to update on its own. This is not a good idea. Completely remove Java and install the latest version manually offline from Oracle/Sun Java. I also do this for Flash and Shockwave.

Yup, the last update to Flash completely broke Firefox's plugin container, so whenever you run something Flash based, it creates 2 Flash processes + the plugin container process, which is what causes the crashing. Actually, in my case, it was the plugin container that crashed, but Flash would stop working nevertheless.

Thanks but it was that latest version that was crashing initially. Several people are saying to install an older version as the latest versions are not always stable.

Real gem, go to C:\ Windows\System32\ Macromed\ Flash, and run it ....
1.jpg

Running, you will get teh uninstaller, perform it.
2.jpg

If there are more than one, run teh both, and get your system free from flash player.

now download the older version that I pointed out to you. Install it. The problem should not be there anymore, I hope.

To install Java clean-completely remove the existing version(s). If using RevoUninstaller you may see more than 1 and both need to go. Now, go to the Java website nd download the offline installer for Windows. Save the file to a folder not the desktop as some folks do. I use a folder specifically named download and set my browser for all downloads to go there. Find the downloaded file and run it. You do not need to be offline from the internet to do this.

For those who think I'm wrong about complete uninstalls of programs, plug-ins, etc--there is strong evidence that this is the best way to insure that there are NO conflicts with prior or buggy versions. In the case of Flash-this is a good example of making sure nothing of a really bad version remains. I also made sure that Firefox was working properly before installing Flash 11.2.0.235 by doing a clean install of Firefox. I do understand that there are people who do not feel comfortable doing this level of work.
