Solved Advice with new router!

Hi guys,

I wanna buy a new wireless router but the problem is I'm not sure what to buy, especially after this problem: http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/300391-wireless-router-keeps-freezing-every-2-days.html

The thing is I want something similar to TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND, a 300Mb router with a USB slot for external HDD sharing and at least 2 external antennas.

Problem is the building I'm living in is kinda old and all the walls are made of reinforced concrete and I had signal problems that bad with every single model with an internal or only 1 external antenna that in only half of the room next to the one with the router I was able to get 2-3/5 and the rest of the room 1 or no signal at all.

Now, I need the router to connect 2/3 PCs, 1 smartphone and game consoles, on a daily basis as well as a wireless printer and USB sharing.

I looked for a few models at a decent price (I'm ready to spend 100 euros on this one, I just want it to work ) and I came across D-Link DIR-655. The problem is this model is OLD since it's the first router to received the Vista Certified label (or at least this is what D-Link says).
Another model that caught my eyes DIR-825.

However, I recently got a DIR 615 for a friend and after 3 weeks the router froze, just like it happened to me. I reconfigured and it worked fine after but I'm afraid not to experience the same problems with D-Link.

Another thing is I don't know how powerful those antennas are since I can't seam to find this info on D-Link website.

Any ideas?

I would recommend Linksys because they are made by Cisco.

Not sure where you could get them from in your area, but here are some suggestions.

Hello,

In addition, if you have concrete walls you might have the same issue no matter what type of router you'd get. Wireless repeaters or extenders might be doable to extend your network's wireless coverage. See a wide selections here, just to give you an idea. Check out the wall plugs wireless extenders as well.

The DIR-655 may be old but it's still one of the best routers on the market and for the price you can't beat it.

I'm still using my DIR-655 as the gateway along with the Asus AC66-U and the D-Link DAP-1522 which are both set up as access points.

I found a lot of LinkSYS here but the problem is there are quite expensive for what they offer (at least double than what I saw on that website you provided). Besides I wasn't able to find any LinkSYS with USB sharing. There were actually my first choice since as you said, CISCO makes them.

@2xg, thanks. I know there is a chance that I'll have signal issues with a new one but I kinda hope this won't happen. As I said, with the old TP-Link, despite all those freezes, I was able to connect with my phone from across the street (small street but I live at the 4th floor), hence my obsession with 2-3 powerful omni directional antennas.

In my experience I have always used ZyXEL kit for networking - they're really good. For wireless I would get: ZyXEL P-661HNU-F1.
