Solved AERO themes causes severe lag in the web browsers.

Well it's hard to add to the already given recommendations,
There are some reviews on a simple search on this model with dual cards
Which I doubt it was really designed for battery dependent and all of the startup programs but to each his/ her own ;)

Hey, a little update here.

Had some talks with colleagues at work, one suggested to try and set Power Management Mode in NVIDIA control panel from "adaptive" to "prefer maximum performance", though I said to him that I already tried that, he then proceeded that I should add DWM.exe and Explorer.exe to the 3D programs list and set their PMM's to "prefer maximum performance" just as well.

So I tried it and so far it works, not a single lag. Cant say 100%, because I am not at home and dont have time to thoroughly test it.

But it most likely just a workaround not a solution since now I have a major drawback from this. In "prefer maximum performance" mode laptop work's for about an hour only, instead of usual 3 and a half hours (its like more than 70% decrease in battery life...), since both GPU's are at their maximum clock rates all the time and it consumes A LOT of power, it also raises temperature by a moderate amount so it becomes pretty hot...

Well, anyway if this work's then it most likely a fault on NVIDIA end with poorly optimized energy management.

I'll post some info if something changes.

Thanks for the update - the dual GPU (SLI and Crossfire) technology is new to me and I'll be interested in anything else you discover. I made a note of this thread for future reference.

Kusos to your colleague for pointing you in the right direction. I agree with Thrashzone - running in that mode is probably not intended for battery power.

Bill

Darkworld - see this on the NVidia forums - it might be something you could try:
https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/669959/here-it-is-an-actual-fix-for-sli-microstutter/

Thanks to ICit2LOL for pointing me to an article that led to the above link.

Thanks, though I am aware of this issue and to be honest never experienced those microstutter's everyone is talking about.

Also this is not applicable in this case, since web browser's always using single rendering mode, you can turn SLI on, but it will only yield artifacts in flash videos.

So I am browsing 2nd day, no lags at all, so I guess its solved. For science returned all to defaults - lag appeared again.

What I noticed in "Adaptive" mode is that it throttles GPU to 135 Mhz due to, mostly, inactivity and when I am browsing something, opening pictures/video - animations becomes choppy because it somehow wont boost clock's higher a bit for better performance, it "wakes up again" when you switch to another window. It's just poor optimization in NVIDIA drivers.

Good thing that I dont need to mess with Windows 8 again, phew. Lastly need to pin some info on my windows licensing, gonna do it this weekend.

I'll mark this thread as solved and will edit first comment with solution, will post some additional info if I discover something.

Thanks everyone for help, much appreciated, learned some cool things about Win7 from you guys.

Just to confirm:

Did you ever try running without the Nvidia full software package which resolves many issues?

If you uninstall it will the setting you found be the default, or does it require the Nvidia control panel to change it?

I tried as you suggested to deliver drivers via windows update and windows downloaded older NVIDIA 327 driver package, which includes NCP by default and dont think you can get rid of it. Well, even if you can it only allows you to change driver setting's and nothing more, so I assume without it all setting's will be at their default values.

I disable those at Startup as they aren't really needed in most cases. Yours may be the exception due to dual GPUs. Was it shipped with a GPU Control Panel? Perhaps disabling that lost the needed setting

Glad to hear things are running smoothly

Mucking about with the OS to solve a GPU issue seemed a bit over the top - just for a lag when browsing.

Good luck straightening out the licensing, hope all works out as it should and you're able to run without any questions.

I know I learned a few things in this thread - thanks again for the feedback, updating post# 1 with the solution and marking the thread solved.
