After chkdsk on ext. drive : corrupted .exe files, jpegs, pdf's etc...

So here is the history of the problem,

I am on Windows 7 pro running on a Sandisk Extreme 240go. I just had a RAID 5 failure (one disk
failed, that was a 4x 4TB internal sata setup). After the fail, my data was still accessible, so I
decided to back it up on seperate disks (2TB flavor). I rebuildt the RAID array differently cause
RAID 5 option via Intel Rapid Storage kept failing, so I made 2x brand new RAID 1 to get 2x 4TB
backup storage. Well, the build process went well, no issues so far.

But when I plugged my backups (2TB ones) via external docking, these drives went suddenly
corrupted and inaccessible... I ran chkdsk on the 2TB's backups and somehow it fixed quite alot of
« problems ». So far so good... Drives can be accessible again. I navigate inside the disk to check
the integrity and I realize this : all my jpegs, pdf, software .exe, and Premiere Pro projects showed
up corrupted, impossible to open them, everything corrupted... except my video files (which
fortunally represents 90% of my backup). But impossible to open my «very important » Premiere
Pro projects, my jpegs and my pdf's. This only happened in my backup drives. Other drives are
simply fine with such files.

I decided to run a virus scan on the backup drives, and Norton found this : « W32 changeup »
associated with buebud.exe. It said it fixed the problem, but I still can't access my files !
I now just wonder if chkdsk did not totally messed up the backup drives. And I also wonder why
my video files are not affected by this problem.

I am quite desperate.... Can someone help me, please ?

Sounds like the RAID setup doesn't like being changed. It probably would have been better to get the drives connected as desired, set up the RAID then not change the physical connections.

I mean I backed up all my RAID 5 before touching anything on the RAID structure. Now my backup disks (not the RAID disks) are corrupted, probably due to a chkdsk on them (or a virus)

We never see anything but problems here with RAID. Never once a good report, only problems making it clear WIn7 doesn't like it on top of the fact it offers no speed advantage over an SSD and isn't even redundant since you almost always lose the data on both drives if you lose one HD.

In addition Disk Check requires a back up before fixing the file system which can result in data loss.

All data should be backed up anyway, and not to RAID.

I suggest you unRAID the HD's, unplug all but one to Clean Install Windows 7 and then do a backup to the other of a System Image and data files.

Well, RAID and Windows are no good friends... Probably...
I mean my post has maybe not been very clear due to its history, but I dont think my problem is related to RAID, but cause of a chksdsk or a virus. So... Chkdsk or virus? I just really wonder. What did actually corrupt my files?

It's hard to say with certainty. But my guess would be Disk Check file system repair complicated by the RAID.
