After I install sp1 for windows 7 64 all prior windows updates

After I install sp1 for windows 7 64 all prior windows updates disappear.


If i uninstall sp1 for windows 7 then they re appear.


I have not been able to find any leads on this issue. Has anyone experienced this issue?​

Hello!

This is actually perfectly normal (although not necessarily expected)

When you install Seven SP1, almost all prior updates will appear to disappear. This is completely normal. They are still on your system, and protecting you, and this happens to everyone. This is completely by design from Microsoft.

Most users will be left with about 14 updates, subject to variation by machine.

The example I was sent:

You could make that stronger! It either incorporates or supersedes ALL of those missing updates.

You are right of course. All of the missing updates but not any it leaves.

I handle the deployment of updates, for new computers I would be fine with deploying the sp1 instead of the prior updates?

Yes. Install SP1 then any updates after that is good to go. it'll automatically have all previous updates and a lot more that never made it to windows update in fact.

Assuming you have verified that SP1 works fine with your applications though. there are a couple of tewaks that need to be made here and there. I.e. VMware I believe...

VMWare has been fixed now, I think...although the general point about compatibility was excellent, and obviously, unless I am wrong, you need to make sure that the VMWare fix is applied (I know this is not the point you were trying to make, I am just adding additional (albeit uncited and uncertain!) information.)

But yes, deployment of SP1 should be piloted and then done.
