I've recently tried to change out the shell32.dll in both the System32 & SysWOW64 folders with a file altered by the creators of the themes I was using (Placebo or Steam VS). After restarting my computer (Dell Inspiron 1750 laptop with 64-bit Windows Home Premium) the sound card is disabled and the flash player plug-in on Firefox and Internet Explorer crashes. Any idea what's going on? I've searched everywhere on the internet and I haven't seen anything similar happening to anyone else.

Maybe the file has to be 'registered'?

I registered the file but that didn't fix the problem.

I've even tried to change the file with Resource Hacker and that causes even more issues. Explorer.exe or any other program won't start after that. It just boots into a blank screen. I have to use sfc/scannow after that. How can changing a few bitmaps inside shell32 do that and somehow bother the sound card and flash if they're replaced a different way. Its confusing and annoying as all hell.
