Alternative Solution to Copernic's WinKey Shortcuts

Windows keyboard button setup on Windows 7 x86/x64​

The reason I created this how to guide was because WinKey 2.8 by Copernic is not supported or designed for x64. I use Clavier+ as an alternate solution.

Disable Windows 7 Hotkeys
This is so you can use a program like WinKey, AutoHotKey, or Clavier+ to assign Win+ {letter or number} to assign keyboard Windows key button. The above programs can be used to map key, launch programs, websites, etc..

1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft \Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies
2. Click on Explorer key under Policies

• NOTE: If you already have the Explorer key (folder) under Policies, then go to step 5.

3. In the left pane, right click on Policies and click on New and Key.
4. Type Explorer and press Enter.
5. In the right pane, right click on an empty area and click on New and DWORD (32-bit) Value.
6. Type NoWinKeys and press Enter.
7. In the right pane, right click on NoWinKeys and click on Modify.
8. To Disable Windows Hotkeys - Type 1 and click on OK.
9. To Enable Windows Hotkeys again - Type 0 (number zero) and click on OK.

LAPTOPS ONLY: Disable Mobility Center
This is so you can use Win+X. Disabling Mobility Center on laptops frees up the use of Win+X.

1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft \Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies
2. In the left pane, right click on Policies and click on New and Key.
3. Type MobilityCenter and press Enter.
4. Click on MobilityCenter key under Policies
5. In the right pane, right click on an empty area and click on New and DWORD (32-bit) Value.
6. Type NoMobilityCenter and press Enter.
7. In the right pane, right click on NoMobilityCenter and click on Modify.
8. To Disable NoMobilityCenter Hotkey - Type 1 and click on OK.
9. To Enable NoMobilityCenter Hotkeys again - Type 0 (number zero) and click on OK.

Mapping Right-Alt to Left-Windows button
This is for those keyboards that do not have the Windows button on the right side of the keyboard.

1. Download and launch the software SharpKeys. SharpKeys does not install, just run the executable, SharpKeys.exe.
2. Click Add button.
3. Click on ‘Special: Right Alt (E0_38)’ on the left side.
4. Click on ‘Special: Left Windows (E0_58)’ on the right side.
5. Click on OK.
6. Click on Write to Registry.
7. Click on Close.
8. Logoff/Logon or restart system.

Now you can use WinKey, AutoHotKey, or Clavier+ to assign shortcut keys to launch application, files, websites, and others with keyboard shortcut keys that you have setup with any of these programs mentioned.

Thank you for the reply Joe but I was just posting this so it can be used by other people who would want to use a shortcut program like WinKey, AutoHotKey, or Clavier+.

If a moderator wants to move the thread to Tutorials that would be fine.
