Solved AMI BIOS, should I change?

I've been thinking about this for some time. I've pretty much always used AMI BIOS, simply because I've gotten used to it.

However, I'm starting to read quite a few negative trends about it - that it's particularly slow, and messy (well, yeah, it's quite messed up) etc.

I'm running on an Asus Maximus motherboard, I'm not entirely sure what BIOS was installed by default. Nevertheless, would I earn any performance, or faster boot from switching to Phoenix or something like that?

Just curious.

I think that may be a more difficult task than you realize. You do know that your BIOS is a chip on your motherboard, right? It is not practical to switch BIOSes like that.

You're talking about buying a whole new motherboard.

You will see performance improvements depending on the motherboard you buy.

The BIOS itself is just software, and the chip is just storing it. Theoretically it should be possible to change what's being stored there. At least this is how it used to be, I'm not very updated on that topic anymore - which is why I asked.

Though, the chances of ruining my motherboard completely is pretty high.

More like 100% guaranteed.

You want a different bios, who are you going to get it from. The motherboard manufacturer sure won't, and the company that made the bios chip (AMI, Award, etc) won't either. Not even sure what you plan to accomplish by such a thing, it isn't like you can magically add features to the motherboard.

99.9% of motherboards in not compatible with eachother, so you are stuck with whatever bios they give you. Only bioses that are sometimes compatible with different mobos are usualy inside same company (for example Asus Rampage Formula / Maximus Formula), but even in that case they are using same bios company. Your only way if you want bios from other manufacture is to write it your self And in that case you might want to go to Ami Aptio (aka EFI).

What I wanted to accomplish? Well, not sure - mainly wanted some sort of info around it to begin with. Which I've gotten.

Its not possible for the average person to code a bios, heck most computer manufacturers have issues doing it, hence why some systems have a dozen bios updates over their lifetime.
