Solved Another No Audio Output Device Is Installed thread

I have tried lots of the fixes other people have mentioned in similar threads but to no avail. Ill list my problem and what I have tried and see if there is any other workarounds I can do.

Problem: I have no sound coming from my speakers at all on my PC. I have a speaker icon with a red cross next to it.

What I have tried:

I tried looking in device manager but the sound and video controllers tab does not even appear.

I open up the sound tab in control panel but it says no audio devices are installed, even with the "show disabled devices installed" option checked.

I have tried installing realtek drivers. One thing. When I look in control panel I have two realtek things listed. They are 1: Realtek AC'97 Audio and 2: Realtek High Definition Audio Driver. Do they conflict?, shall I uninstall one?.

Just a history of my PC. It is an Advent 3219 that was originally Windows XP. I now have Windows 7 on there. I am not sure if the sound stopped directly after installing Windows 7 because my younger brother had the PC originally and he didnt notice (!).

Are there any ways I can fix this, it is driving me crazy, thanks in advance for all the help.

Have you tried the troubleshooters in Control Panel?
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\Hardware and Sound.

Try the playing audio, and Hardware Devices.

I tried what you said and it comes up with a dialog box that says

"Troubleshooting has completed"

The troubleshooter has made changes to your system. Try attempting the task you were trying to do before.

Problems found: Hardware changes might not have been detected. Detected.

I try playing a song and windows media tell me that there is a problem with my sound device.

I also still have the red x on my speaker icon too.

It is quite possible that they are conflicting. found the specs for your computer here,

UKT Support - Advent 3219 PC

which shows it has the Realtek AC'97 audio on it, so the HD driver shouldn't work with it. Taking it a step further the motherboard in it is this one,

which shows it is the Realtek ALC655 AC'97 audio. I would start with uninstalling both, then installing the latest from Realtek for it,

Thanks Stormy, you took the words right out of my mind.

I just got back from chores, and after thinking 'bout this, I was also going to suggest updating the drivers next because of the upgrade from XP to 7.

An update:

I uninstalled both realtek programs, restarted my pc, and went and download the installer package that you linked a post or two above. The problem is when I go to install it, it starts up and says its loading the drivers but windows security pops up and says that the driver is not recognised. I choose install anyway and it seems to carry on but a minute or so later the same dialog pops up. This carries on and on and the progress bar on the install don't go any further, just the same thing. Dialog box-install anyway...minute or so...dialog box-install anyway etc etc. This is so frustrating lol

Yep, tried that. Same windows security box popping up.

I would like you to try a complete shutdown:

• Turn off your PC.

• Unplug it.

• Unplug all your devices from your PC, and any power supplies.

• Touch the power on button as if you want to start the PC. This will discharge any residual power left in the PC. (Capacitors) You may even see the power indicator light come on for a few moments.

• Wait 30 minutes or more.

• Plug in your essential USB devices (keyboard, mouse).

• Plug in your PC, turn it on.

• Try re-installing the drivers.

• Restore any of the rest of your USB devices.

Tried that but I still luck out with the windows security dialog box keep popping up when Im trying to install the realtek drivers

Im guessing that means Motherboard?. If so, I just used aida and it says my motherboard name is: Abit SG-72/ECS 661FX-M (Deluxe)

To get in the bios, while the POST screen is showing hit the Del/Delete key. Then using the arrow keys navigate to the "Integrated peripherals" section and in there go to "SIS OnChip PCI Device" and you will find the setting for the onboard audio.

Yeeeeee Ha. Got it!. The option was unchecked in my bios. As soon as I booted up the red cross was there again and I thought I was out of luck but the PC automatically started downloading drivers and now Im back with sound. Thanks a lot everyone who took their time to try and sort my problem out. stormy13, your a star.

It is up amongst the leaders, but yes there is nothing worse than a mis-behavin' communications device.
