Solved atikmpag.sys booting BSOD

I did uninstall the drivers before installing the AMD card. Having the latest version of the AMD drivers installed (14.501), GPU-Z still reports PCI-E 1.1 x16 @ x1 1.1. (btw, can you tell me what does this x1, x2, x16 etc. mean?)

Guess there's nothing more to fix the problem. I'll try to get rid of the card asap. Thank you for the help, appreciate it. Marking the thread as solved now.

X16 means there is, and should be 16 lanes of traffic on the pcie lanes. In other words 16 lanes for bandwidth and traffic. Your AMD card only had 2 lanes of traffic, basically meaning it was throttled by the lanes it could communicate on. Why? I have no idea. I would suspect it was the Card or the Motherboard. But, when you put the Nvidia card in, you had the proper amount of lanes which makes me think it was a problem with the card. One other thing you always have to take into consideration is your PSU. From my reading, a 5800 card can pull 385 Watts at full throttle. So, you have another 165 Watts to run the rest of the system. You may possibly get by with that if you want to run your PSU at 100%, and assuming the PSU will run that way for some length of time. However, that is when the Graphics card is under severe stress, so not all the time. It was not under serious stress when you took the GPUz screenshot. Even considering that, I think it is the card. But, If you get another card like that I would consider a bigger PSU. When you think about buying a card, you have to take the PSU into consideration first, before anything else. It will either limit what card it can support or let you know how big a PSU you need to get. Never skimp on a PSU, always get a good quality PSU and never buy the minimum. Buy larger than you need, for 2 reasons. A PSU normally is more efficient at 60-65% of it's maximum, plus it gives you room in case you want to upgrade later. The end result is, it is my opinion that your AMD card is defective. But, the other stuff is something to consider in the future.

I think we should note that the card is way newer than than the motherboard .. so maybe they aren't completely compatible?
Anyway, opened a new thread with the parts I have in mind. Can you take a look?

I am aware of that, but don't believe it would make a difference. As far as your new build, my only observation is I may select another Motherboard. I don't have a big problem with Asrock boards, in fact I owned one for several years and it was a very good board, what I do have a problem with is the Killer Network cards. Drivers for it will drive you insane.

Hm, didn't know that. What would you suggest?
Edit: just to clarify, my idea was to use a canyon wi fi card. Are you saying finding drivers for that device will be hard?

I don't know about the Canyon WiFi card. But the Killer network Lan is very hard to find drivers for.
