Back to 7048 (seems faster than 7057)

Hi Doc

Join the Microsoft Connect site - Microsoft Connect - and you can get Beta keys from there still. Each key is good for up to 5 machines and you can request more if needed.
Be patient tho, I find the MS Connect site the worst for not being able to connect too...LOL!! Constantly I get the "IE Cannot Display Page" or the sign in page that won't allow you to sign in. Ugh..
Sometimes I find if I Google MS Connect I can get in that way. Even with IE8 being RC1 in 7057, I'm still finding it buggy with page displays that Compatibility View can't fix.

Trying to join the microsoft connect is like speaking to an Indian call center -- round and round you go -- and even then you might not get "admitted" to the promised land.

The keys are freely available anywhere -- just do a bit of googling

Incidentally they work on more than 5 machines -- I must have installed at least 20 different systems with the SAME KEY and had no probs with activation.

There are only about 5 - 10 sets of keys for each type of OS (32 or 64 bit).

Some of these installs were on Virtual Machines -- but with significantly different "Virtual Hardware configurations" -- which usually DO require activation in normal circumstances) -- Hoping you guys don't think I'm actually MAD or CRAZY enough to have 20 computers .

My 16GB RAM Quad Q9400 system can EASILY run 8 or 9 concurrent VM's without even noticing it -- provided you've got enough RAM (even more important than CPU believe it or not -- assuming your VM's aren't really doing a huge amount of Number crunching / Photoshopping) and disk space (Over 8TB available !). You need a 64 bit OS of course as host or you can't address all the physical memory in the system which the Host needs when running all the Guest Virtual Machines.

If you need keys just PM me. You can still AFAIK anyway get keys from the Microsoft site without all the connect rigmarols even though W7 itself is no longer available.

Cheers
jimbo

7048 vs 7057 (my experience)
1) installation took about 5 minutes longer w/ 7057 (still pretty quick-25 minutes)

2) 7048 a bit quicker (not by much, but still noticeable)

3) no issues running WEI with 7000, 7048, or 7057 (even though 7000 gives me a 6.0 and 7048 and 7057 gives 5.9)

4) Forceware 181.71 big improvement over 179.23 and 179.43

installation took about 5 minutes longer w/ 7057

Me too! How to fix it???

7057 probably has some de-bugging software included in it which probably explains the insignificant 5 minutes you are worried about.

Sorry! I'm from Vietnam so my English are poor.
My computer installed Windows 7 build 7057. The "boot screen" took about 5 minutes longer. I asked how to fix this error?

Windows Beta 7 Benchmarks (7048 vs 7057) - Neowin Forums

I think the biggest performance difference are for computers with average hardware specs, like what I am running in my sig, rather than a high-end quadcore and graphics. For me, 7000-->7048 was a huge jump and I think most people can say the same. But 7048-->7057 is still up in the air. Startup seems to be a little slower, which is reasonable to expect considering the tinkering they did with the logon wallpaper and they have not taken the time to reoptimize the code again. There does not seem to be any difference with normal computer usage like opening documents and surfing the internet. At best, maybe slightly faster. Hard to say for sure.

@meoawake,

Your boot screen showing for five minutes seems very excessive, it doesn't really describe a general problem either. If you feel it seems to take a real long time, then you can always reinstall it or maybe go back to build 7048, which many people seem to prefer over 7057.

And this may help with your language translations.

My appologies, no offense meant or taken.
The 5 minutes that was referred to was the installation time (20 minutes vs 25 minutes) as my 1st post stated in the thread. :(

I working with 7022 :(

1GB of RAM is pretty much the minimum to run it smoothly.

Well, you can search with google for windows 7 build 7048, or 7057 and install that if you wanted. I used both, they seem pretty good, like I said, some prefer 7048 over 7057 though.
