Windows backup:
"By default, Windows automatically saves as many system images as it has space for without taking up more than 30 percent of space on the backup disk. Once the disk starts running out of room, Windows deletes older system images. You can set Windows to retain as many system images as it has space for on the backup disk or to only keep the most recent system image."

Is there any way to increase space above 30% ?

The maximum space it allocates for the shadowstorage (that's where the restore points go) is 15%, not 30%. You can change the size with the VSSAMIN RESIZE command. Here are the details (saves me to type them): How to reduce disk space used by Windows Vista system restore Usually people want to reduce the shadowstorage, but it goes both ways. Just be aware, if you do a resize, you loose all current shadows (restore points) and start anew again.

My question is not about shadowstorage but about system images created by Windows Backup and Restore on the backupdisk. The backupdisk is not and cannot be the Windows systemdisk.

Jan, OK, got you. You are talking about the function in Ultimate. I am using the Home editions and keep forgetting the native imaging in Ultimate. I use Norton Ghost and Paragon.

I am talking about the Windows Backup program in Windows 7.
Remember you're on a Windows Seven forum !!
Vista has a separate chapter on this forum

Right - I mixed things up. But as I said, it must be Ultimate because that is all we got with the RT. But unfortunately I cannot answer your question because I am just starting with W7 - and as you can see, my mind is still in Vista. I am sorry I messed up your thread.
