Hey guys.. I've a old 2GB RAM PC running W7 for my dad. Every 3 to 6 months I have to format my system getting it to a local repair shop - they take a day or 2 to return. The last being today.. its still sitting in the repair shop.

I recall coming across a backup software in a cyber cafe few years back, whenever they used to have system issues - the owner used to just put on some backup cd & it used to restore the content an older backed up DB, would hardly take 10 minutes for the entire process. I don't recall the name of the software, so was wondering if you guys could suggest some decent free backup software for the entire system - which could work similarly.

That sort of backup is called system imaging, and an excellent way to restore content back to the computer.

Here is a link to a tutorial for the free version of Macrium Reflect - it’s an excellent piece of software, easy to use and highly recommended.

This tutorial is on our Windows 10 site, since the one here uses an outdated version of the software - the one on the Windows 10 site works perfectly for Windows 7.

It sounds like a system image. There are many programs which can do it. They vary in ease of use and extra features.

Several have free versions, which do the basic job. Have a look at a couple and see which you like.

Aomei Backupper free (standard version ) is probably the simplest to use and I often recommend it. Particularly useful for people who haven't done imaging before.

Macrium does a free version so do Paragon and Easeus.

I also like O&O diskimage. Not normally free so luckily they have a free giveaway of O&O diskimage Pro v12 at the moment. It has a lot of features which may or may not be what you are after.
