I do backups from Windows "Backup & Restore" every 2 months.
In the past a backup to DVD would use 2 DVDs. This month it is 5
In the past I have done backup to flash drive as well (16GB). Now it will not fit on it.
I have not knowingly increased my folders/files or programs.
So it seems that the Windows selection of data to backup has suddenly increased.
I did consider getting round the problem by making my own selection of what to backup; but I do not know which folders/files to select!

I have made it a habit to run Disk Cleanup before EVERY image backup, including the option to examine system files. You might be surprised how much stuff that will remove.

As to the growth, it could be both Windows Updates and temporary internet files.
