Best way to setup the Klipsch 4.1 speakers with Realtek

I have a very nice sounding set of Klipsch 4.1 speakers (no center channel). All of the speakers run into the sub and then a pair of cables come out of the sub to be connected to the sound card. One is in to the front pair input and the other to the rear. The Realtek setup doesn't really seen to cover this. I can setup 5.1 and then not check the center channel which seems to cover the front. On the sound test it sends the center signal to both of the fronts ... as it should. But it will not allow me to select the rears as rears ... I have to set them up as sides. Is this as it should be?
Also - it seems to be trying to send a signal directly to the sub as if the sub has its own connection.

I had the same issue with the rear speakers on my older 4.1 Altec speaker system. Running Vista 64-bit with the Realtek HD Audio Manager (latst driver). After working around the screens, I finally opted to selected the 7.1 speaker option on the speaker configuration tab....
maybe you'll find solution for your problem here(post #8)

Funny - I am the 'Tidalcloud' on that thread. I suppose you might be the 'vicented'?
Anyway - I tried the 7 channel 'trick' and it seems to work but when I test it still tries to play the sides (even though they were not checked) but does so through the fronts. Seems like that shouldn't be the case.

Tried 7.1 (with sides and center turned off) and 5.1 with center turned off and input set to sides. In both cases I get sound from the rears for the test but not when I go to play music via iTunes player.

I know the answer to this. Connect the rear from the Klipsch to the Realtek SIDE jacks. Very counter intuitive.
