Bios help

so, i just bought an Asus computer. i like the stats of it, 8gb ram, 2.5GHz quad processor.

i updated the power supply to handle my new Geforce GT 220 graphic card, got the card installed. im even currently using it now. but when i load up WoW i get the message "Failed to find a suitable display device, exiting program"

i been told i need to change something in the bios, to tell the computer wich graphic card to use, but i can't figure out how to get to the bios. i think i found it, but couldnt find where the video was to change that.

i cant find any link on the nvidia site to download drivers, tried going to devices and just click the new card and find updated drivers that way. but the device isnt even listed.

anyone able to help?

Hi. The driver for your card is easily found on NVIDIA's site.

The BIOS is typically accessed by either F2 or delete key during boot process. Tap the key once a second or so and you should get in.

The choices for video in the BIOS may just be the choice between onboard video and a separate card. It could be listed in a "peripherals" menu, or you may have to really fish around for it.

Make sure your monitor is actually plugged into the new video card.

ok, ya. i had gotten into the bios earlier, but couldnt find any video settings. does anyone know what the name of the setting is, and location in the bios is in windows 7?

I wouldn't worry about that so much for now, and just install the new driver. If it doesn't go well, then you can look at bios settings.

It depends on who made the BIOS and varies. You may have a Phoenix BIOS, an Award BIOS, or???

You have to pull down all the menus in it and look.

the link to the driver that was given wont work for me. i got a message that said

Setup detected that the operating system in use is not Windos Vista [32-bit]/Windows7 [32-bit].

and that it will only work on that. this computer has Windows 7 Home Premium.

Alright, then install the 64-bit version instead:

ya. thats what im downloading now.

ok. so i got everything installed and its working now... there is a slight difference in performance now, but i expected more. with the graphic card that came standard in the computer i was getting 9-10 fps in WoW. i put in this new graphic card, and now im getting 12-13. not that great of an upgrade... could i have done something wrong?

No, it's fine. Update your WEI score and tell us what it gets.

Right click computer. Properties. Click Windows Experience Index.

You probably have some other issue besides the video card. Or the power supply you upgraded to is still to weak. How many Watts is it rated at?

thats exactly what it all says. the power supply was up'd to a 500 watt power supply. i was playing Aion just now and the screen flashed black for a bit, came back, then did it a couple more times. then said something about a device failing, but it recovered.

Try to update your chipset drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's site or chipset manufacturer's site.

how would i do that? Asus made my computer, and im told they make motherboards or something for other computer companies... so i figure they made their own for this computer... but i have no clue what type of motherboard it is

CPU-Z mainboard tab can tell you which motherboard. Find out the chipset for it then visit chipset maker's site itself, for the drivers.

For example, NVIDIA, VIA, REALTEK, Intel etc....

it says chipset "Intel P45/P43"

im looking at the chipsets Intel has, but i dont say any P45/P43. they are all individual

its telling me that before it can check to see if im up to date, i have to give my permission to download an ActiveX or Java Plug-in component called SysReqLab.cab, SRLApplet or System Requirements Lab from Husdawg, LLC.

but it doesnt give a download link. i clicked on the little icon in the corner, but it didnt take me to any place that had a download for that.

Use I.E. and click the link at the top when it tells you.

well. IE works with it. but now every time i try to do a check, it starts to analyze it, then it give an error message. as far as i know IE isnt blocked by a firewall.
