Black screen near the end of installation

Hi

I am currently using Vista Home Premium SP1, with a Nvidia GTX 295 and Intel Core i7 920. I purchased the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade disc yesterday.

Near the end of the installation it does one of its usual auto-restarts. After the Win7 loading screen finishes, all i can see is a black screen with a mouse pointer, thats it. Then if i restart it takes me to a screen that says "your upgrade failed, restoring your previous version of Windows". I have tried every hint i can find, 9 installs later, and still no closer to finishing.

any suggestions?

Are you doing an upgrade or clean install?

Are you dunning a raid (if you dnot know what it is you probably arern't)

Any overclocking?

how much ram?
