Solved Blue screen shutdown - about 3 years since the last bsod help on here

Hello All,

My thread has now received nearly 5000 views - I am very surprised.

However I am a little disappointed to have not received any further replies to my recent questions and comments after the very
helpful information that I received from Members torchwood and SIW2 as my questions and comments were related to the
information that they very kindly gave to me.

As someone who has very little knowledge of `Computing` I need a bit more help than people who are experienced in Computer
processes to make sure that I am understanding some of the very helpful information that I have received on here.

I am almost always going to have follow up questions related to my Computer BSOD or any other problem when I receive replies.

I am always hoping that will not alienate Members on here and put them off replying to me ?

Chris

I RECEIVED A REPLY ON TUESDAY 22nd JULY AND I RESPONDED WITH MY MESSAGE BELOW - THEN WHILE I WAS EDITING IT
THE MEMBERS REPLY AND MY RESPONSE DISAPPEARED:

Hello Dimi326486;3536871,

Thank you very much for your reply and for your suggestions relating to possible causes of the BSOD on my Computer
earlier this year.

I really appreciate your interest and your suggestions so please don`t be irritated by my next paragraph:

Because I have not had another BSOD for quite a while and I am very inexperienced in Computing I would be worried about
downloading and using any Software such as a RAM tester that might produce results that I would not understand and I could
never even contemplate backing up and reinstalling Windows 7.

Also I must say Thank You again to the Members who helped me with replies soon after my original message was posted although
they said that they were not BSOD Experts.

I have not had any BSOD events since I followed Member torchwood`s suggestion to uninstall DIVX so he obviously was correct in
identifying that DIVX was causing a problem on my Computer.

Thanks again for your help torchwood - I really appreciated it.

Member SIW2 was also very helpful posting some requested `Idiot proof` instructions to help me when I did not have the
knowledge to understand how to do seemingly simple tasks to create some specific files - Thanks again SIW2.

As I am very inexperienced in Computing I did have follow up questions but unfortunately they were not replied to so I gave
up on them.

When I posted this BSOD thread on here and uploaded the Dump files as instructed by the BSOD section of the Forum I was
hoping that one of the named BSOD Experts on the Forum would be able to view those files and might see a definite cause for
the couple of BSOD events.

That is what happened with a previous BSOD that occured on my Computer - a BSOD Expert viewed the Dump files and identified
the cause and what I should do to remove the problem.

I am wondering if BSOD events on Windows 7 are caused by different problems on newer Windows operating systems and because
Windows 7 is now so old / out of date that there are no longer any Windows 7 BSOD Experts on the Forum ?

If a BSOD ocurred on for example Windows 8 or 10 would the process of creating Dump files and uploading them to a Computer
help Forum like this enable a BSOD Expert to view the files and possibly see a potential cause of a BSOD ?

Thanks again for reading through my thread and for your reply.

Chris

I AM GUESSING THAT MEMBER Dimi326486;3536871 WAS IRRITATED ENOUGH BY MY REPLY TO DELETE THEIR MESSAGE.

I don't have am answer for you, just an observation: So few people use W7 these days that it's not unusual for questions to gather dust. There are not many folks here, at least on a regular basis, that could answer your question. You might want to consider casting a wider net. Ask it on other forums. Tom's Hardware. Other W7 forums. Stack overflow. And so on. That's what I would do. One thing for sure is, it's not that people here don't care or are lazy. Just a simple numbers thing.

Hello michael diemer,

Thanks for your reply - I did consider that as Windows 7 is now many years old [16 years since release ?] that there would be less Windows 7 experts in general and even less BSOD experts in particular on this Forum when I wrote this in my previous message:

`I am wondering if BSOD events on Windows 7 are caused by different problems on newer Windows operating systems and
because Windows 7 is now so old / out of date that there are no longer any Windows 7 BSOD Experts on the Forum ?`

Thanks for mentioning some other Computer problem Forums that I did not know about.

During my 16 years of ownership of my Computer apart from this excellent Forum my only other contact to ask questions about
other Computer problems has been the Microsoft Forum where I have had little success and could not have ever expected to get
any correct answers about a BSOD problem.

I will have a look at Tom's Hardware and try to find other W7 forums including Stack overflow.

Thanks again for replying to me.

Chris

EDIT: Toms Hardware is as the title suggests only about Computer Hardware and on Stack overflow although I only looked for a few minutes I did not see any questions related to Windows 7 - if I had wanted to use the Search facility I would have had to register on the Forum.

I did find what looks like another very well established and reputable Windows 7 Forum similar to this one but I will not name it out of respect and gratitude to sevenforums.com as I have received BSOD help [and some other help] with this thread and help with a previous BSOD.

Actually, Tom's does indeed have sub-forums for various operating systems. I mention it because it has thousands of members. I usually have response within an hour, and frequently it solves the problem.

Some others: My Migital Life and Bleeping Computer.

Hello again Michael,

Thanks for your message, although I was not on the Toms hardware website very long I did not see the Computer problem sub sections - obviously my mistake for just seeing the main webpage and getting the wrong impression - as it is now 03:00 as I type this I will look on there again later today.

One of the other Forum websites that you mentioned is what I was referring to in my previous message as being a well established reputable Windows 7 Computer problem Forum - I did not name it because I thought that I remembered from a few years ago that the Forum moderators did not want `Competitor Forums` named on here ?

If that was not the rule on here I may have misremembered it because I know that some other unrelated Forum type websites that I have used over the past few years did have that rule - if I or any other member wanted to recommend either another website or even a supplier of a product a couple of those Forums stated that we should do so only via a private message to another member.

Thanks again for your interest and messages.

Chris

Hopefully that's no longer the case. We're here to help people. I see nothing wrong with reminding someone there are other places to get help, when their question has gone unanswered for a longish period of time. Hopefully the mods agree. At one time such a policy made sense, but these days, when forums in general are kind of fading away, it doesn't really anymore. At least in my opinion.
