I got a set of Bose Companion 5 5.1 (2 speakers, using their special technowhatever to sound like 5.1). These use a USB 2.0 cable connected to a subwoofer to work. Now, I had Vista, which this speakers worked on fine. Switched to Windows 7, because I hated Vista's slow Windows Explorer loading, and the speakers don't work. After being plugged in, they are "Unknown Device"s.

..Help please.

This is weird, I own these speakers too and they seem to be working fine through USB. They get detected properly and the sound is automatically redirected to them when I plug them in through USB, the only problem I experience is sometimes some kind of popping/skipping/crackling sound. I guess your best way to go is to plug them to your computer using a headphone cable to connect from the volume pod sound input to the computer's sound output.

I connected BOSE Companion 5 but I can't control the volume at control pod.

I connected back again to a laptop acer with vista home premium and works.

PS. About BOSE Companion 5; in those two speakers are in fact 4 speakers! Two left, two right, and the mind behind is the TrueSpace processor. Not bad. And if you connect a bose QC3 headphones - or anything with bose TRUE SPACE chip - all headphones have it - , you listen 5.1 in your headphone :D, cool, ain't?

Problem solved!

Reinserted again in the main pc and works like charm.

ADVICE!!

Because they are on usb you have a huge advantage over those on classical connection. On classical connection you lose signal strength and affects directly sound quality, but on usb losing of signal strength translate in losing speed on mbps - but bose companion 5 needs only a small bandwidth - a melody has a maximum 3mbps 384KB/s- usually maximum is 320kbps - that's 40KB/s that's more than ok for usb 2.0 to work so with two passive usb cables, still works like charm at over 15m - at this distance there is still enough bandwith giving the fact that within 1.5 metres the signal is 60MB/s! By now you probably cath the ideea ;).

I recommend BOSE COMPANION 5 for everyone that loves music and video and use a pc - if you buy a classical 5.1 system and an audio card to handle it, it will cost alot mode, almost double the money -. They are enough even for a moderate living room - more than enough for a pc office lol -, for something bigger you need Bose CINE MATE or 321 GS/GSX( with storage )/GSXL ( with alot more storage ) . If you put togheter BOSE, EIZO, a bmco custom PC ( www.bmco.ro - soon website relaunched ) and the 3d vision discover http://www.nvidia.com/object/3D_Vision_Discover_Main.html - soon they will be on market, now they are only bundled - you will have some killer multimedia system that doesn't necesarly has to cost extreme, just alot :D .
