Bought new Power Supply Unit, won't power on. Did I buy the wrong one?

I have a Corsair CX430M PSU with 4 slots to connect in the back.

& bought a new Antec BP550 Plus PSU, which has 5 slots to connect to.

The Corsair on the left & the new Antec on the right.

I double checked to make sure ever cable (mobo/HDD/DVD/fans/GPU etc..) that was attached to the Corsair was also then attached to the Antec.

The yellow wire in the middle of that picture with 8 slot holes is from my GPU/PCI-E cable & fits into the Corsair perfectly, but doesn't on the Antec.
Luckly the Antec had a adapter that let me connect that one end & then to the PSU.

That's pretty much the only differences between the two.

There was no power when turning on my PC with the Antec.
I reconnected the Corsair back & it worked fine. Unplugged everything & made double sure where all the cable connections were & put back the Antec.
Still nothing.
I tried shuffled & re-attaching some of the cabels in the back of the Antec PSU into the red slot, but that didn't seem to work either.

Did I buy the wrong PSU? Is it not compatible with my PC or am I not connecting the right cable into the right slots in the back of it?

If you are doing what I think you are doing DON'T.

Do not use cables from the Corsair to the Antec or visa versa. Their is a very good chance that they are not wired the same inside the power supply.

Only use cables that are pacifically for that power supply.

There is only 3 cables connected to the Antec. The rest are removable.
Same with the Corsair, only it has 2 cables attached to it.

I connected the cables from the corsair that fit the Motherboard & the other extra cable from inside the PSU, I connected to a cable that was already connected to the GPU at one end.

The rest of the cables that were already connected to the DVD/HDD/fans, I just plugged them to the back of the PSU & they connected fine.

All I'm trying to explain to you.

Do Not plug any cable into a power supply that did not come with that power supply.

Do Not plug a cable that came with power supply (A) into power supply (B).
I don't care where the other end of the cable plugs into.

Do you understand what I'm posting. Yes or No.

Example:
A Corsair 860 and a Corsair 860i.

The cables are not interchangeable because they are not wired the same.
They will plug in but you don't want to do that.

I know why everyone is having problems. You need to make sure your hard disk is not a 2.5' hdd. It will try to draw power from the 5v word and not the 12v. If you have two hdds in your setup, one has to be a 3.5 and/or run off of the 12v line. There were two ways I discovered this. I went through all the tests everyone else has and had the same bizarre results. After further investigation, I researched the PSU I had and read about its protective mode. The PSU won't power on for more than a couple seconds before it detects a discrepancy. Now here is the bizarre part for me. when the 3.5 hdd I had when powered (just powered), would my pc boot just fine. Also when I had a disk in the optical drive would the pc work just fine. My mission was to find out why that was happening and to find a common factor. I started looking up things relating to components dying while
Connected to power supply and if the hurt the power supply at all. Over the many hours of research I did, I discovered information I have never read or cared to read about. It was about the PSU specifications. I also read about the new style 12v atx PSUs and how they work. I notice someone mentioning that the new style PSUs won't power without a load on one of the rails. Sooooooo......While reading through yet another forum, I notice someone who had the same hdd that I have has posted about this issue. It then dawns on me...2.5' hdd run off of a 5v source meaning the 12v line on the rail would essentially fry the 2.5' hdd. This is the instability that people were looking for. This is what shuts the pc down right away. I also want to mention that every component connected directly to the PSU must be able to run at 12v or the system will become unstable and do the same thing.

And there you have it! I am willing to bet that most people experiencing this issue have a PSU like this one. I have a corsair 650 copper I believe. Also the reason my pc booted when a disk was in the drive is because the motor in the device calls for a 12v line but if there is no disk present it runs idle off the 5v line. I was going crazy trying to diagnose this but a lot of time and effort was the cure for me.

That's interesting. I use a drive dock similar to this one and it accepts either 3.5" or 2.5" SATA drives plugged into the same power and data sockets, even works with SSD drives.

It's essential that we know if you've tried to use the Corsair's PSU cables with the Antec PSU. This would be a HUGE No No and as well once you've replaced all the mobo, GPU and drive cables with only the ones provided by Antec then did you also flip the power switch on the PSU itself? Answer back with your results.
