BSOD after upgrading my computer 0x0000007B

<psst>try a different SATA port on your MoBo as well.<poof!>

I tried that too, and then I though all of the SATA ports might have been broken, so I tried to use an IDE hard drive, but I got the same error.

At what stage do you get the black screen? Is it during the clean install, or during trying to boot after Windows installs? If it is during the install, what point in the install does it fail?

What H.W. do you know to be fully functional from your build? I would assume the only items that would be in question is the MoBo and Processor? At this point, if it were me, I would RMA the two items.

You know that the other hardware works without fault.
You know that your installation media is good.
You know that you have tried even the most basic of starts.

Seems simple to me.

If you can install Ubuntu you should be able to install Win7. However GRUB can corrupt Win7 so must be wiped from HD before Win7 isnstall.

Plug in only only one HD to SATA1 port.

Reset BIOS to defaults, then set SATA controlller to AHCI to try install.

if you don't have a new retail DVD then download the latest official ISO from link here and use the MS tool given to burn to DVD or write to flash stick: Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

Boot the DVD or Flash Stick (under USB, Removable or HD's using one-time BIOS Boot Menu) into DISKPART At PC Startup to wipe the HD with Diskpart Clean Command as must be done when GRUB was on the HD to overwrite this or other corrupt/conflicting code.

Then choose Custom install Drive Options to create and format your partitions and Install following the steps in tutorial given.

If this fails, test the RAM - Test with Memtest86+ for 5-6 passes or overnight, then test your HD using maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan followed by Disk Check from Command Line.

If there are problems post back the exact error message or code and at what step in Clean Install Windows 7 it occurs.

Thanks for the reply. I'll check it out tomorrow as I really need to get some sleep now.
Again thanks for the suggestions.

Have all the hard drives that you've had connected to the board been properly recognized in the BIOS?

Have you messed around with the hard drive you mentioned in the first post since you got that STOP 0x0000007B (0xFFFFF880009A9928, 0xFFFFFFFFC0000034, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000) error?

After stripping it down to the bare essentials it didn't get a bluescreen, the screen just went black and it rebooted.

This is really starting to get confusing, I have never seen this before...

edit: also safe mode stops at disk.sys if it helps...

Can you tell us what your 'Bare Essentials' are?
Sometimes there is something overlooked, like a sound card or USB hub, ect.

Try switching to the other RAM card in a different slot on the motherboard, only one RAM card installed when loading the OS. Tell us which motherboard slot you are using.
Try a different graphics card.

These methods have been successful in some cases.

Re-loading the OS on your USB stick, as Greg mentioned, is a good idea as well, the files may have become corrupt.

Yes they are being recognized properly, and I have also tried the 0x7b drive, and I still get the same error message.

After stripping it down to the bare essentials it didn't get a bluescreen, the screen just went black and it rebooted.

If you check page 2 writhziden tells me to strip it down to the bare essentials, which are:

one RAM module, the CPU, motherboard, one hard disk, one graphics card (or use onboard graphics if you have it), keyboard, mouse, and one monitor.

I disconnected everything else from the computer.

I am pretty sure the usb is fine, as I recently used it to install windows on my laptop (which I am typing this on).

I have tried to move the ram to a different slot, and remove one of them, but I still get the same result.

The ram is in slot A1.

Please reply to each step I gave you so I can give you further steps if needed. This will eliminate the OS as the culprit.
