Hi all!

I need a help with an issue which is driving me crazy!

It has been some days i am getting ramdoms BSODs whose characteristic is a sudden video signal loss with a crash pointing to the video driver.
This may happen while playing a game or just out of windows start.
sometimes it wont let me actually load windows.

Today, i turned on the computer in normal mode and it ran good for barely 3 minutes, having come to an expected shutdown while i was brwosing the net reading text.

Below i paste the info about the unexpected shutdown

It loads OK when i load Windows in safemode.

I have most current Nvidia Drivers.

I suspect it is a hardware problem with video, since last year i lost one of my laptop's videocard due to overheating. this is NOT the case now, since we are in the coldest month of the year in a cold city (Sao Paulo, Brazil)

anyways, there isnt enough evidence (by my rookie view) to support that it is an unrecoverable hardware fault.

PLease help me!

If that turns out to be the case, i will have to buy another computer.

I see the backtrace of a previous solved BSOD there. Appreciable job done there on it (Baidu AV).

The present issue is display/graphics related, and it is a single dump reflecting this issue, so first concentrating on the driver, which is I think 353.30 WHQL.

Uninstall the installed display driver using Display Driver Uninstaller. Then install 350.12 WHQL as a test, see how it goes.

Report us for any further BSOD.

Further troubleshooting might be needed depending on the situation.

Hi Arc. thank you so much for taking the time to take a look.

in my desperation for solution, I found a way to do a system restore to a point about 1 month ago, which had the same drivers i Had when i started crashing (which is the 340.52) - BUT NO CRASHING.
The issues continued to happen when I upgraded to the 353.30)

since we are now in this new situation,

1- I will try and provoke the BSOD by loading some game and playing around or playing some movie (VLC player).

2- upgrade the NVIDIA drivers if all goes well, try and provoke the BSOD again.
2.1- use the DDU and install the 350 drivers as instructed if the above fails. (I downloaded the ones for the 400M series which is my case :))

3- report the results and see how we go from there.

Provoke test was positive with the 340.52 drivers. attatched is DM log info.

I played with eve online for a while, and after I shut it down, I lost video just like before.

weird thing is that the video signal just goes off; I dont even have time to see a bluescreen although the first time I had a message me warning about the crash upon reboot. this time i didnt have.

I had to eventually do a hard reset.

will proceed to DDU and clean install of the NV350 drivers

very well. NV 350 drivers also crashed the videocard.

as soon as i loaded the game and lobby screen was up, GFX appeared corrupt and video shut down. wouldnt let me load windows in normal video upon restart

right now, i am using the windows standard VGA drivers after removing everything again with DDU, which at least lets me load windows in normal mode. (audio, etc etc).

Again, there was no apparent BSOD specifically and the minidump files show an old date.
I hope the info from eventviewer and this DM log with normal windows drivers help to locate and pinpoint the cause of fault.

thank you very much for the help

There is no new crash dump in either of your later posts.

But, if you have issues with multiple versions of the display driver, it is not a driver issue. Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.Take a screenshot of the furmark window before closing it. Upload the screenshot for us. Also let us know if you have experienced any crash/BSOD and/or artifacts during the test.

Fumark wont work with windows vanilla drivers, i'll try and install the driver again to see if it will let windows load and do a stress test with fumark.

does the event viewer logs show any other hint?

will report back.

I was able to do a stress test with Fumark but everytime it came out of fullscreen it would go out on me. I didnt have time to screenshot the fumark test results. During test, GPU temp reached about 75C temperature. it was a 60 sec FHD test with Post FX ticked on the options.

in a repeated attempt to FUmark, i noticed that i had another video shutdown when temperature reached 75¤C

eventually it generated a new BSOD which popped up to me as an unexpected shutdown upon restart.

It seems that the graphics chip is failing. And the graphics chips like your GTX 485M are not very easy to replace. It is attached to the motherboard like this image:
malibal_p150hm_gtx-485m.jpg

I would suggest you to take the computer to a repair shop. And get the GPU replaced.

Well, neither they are cheap, too. (check attachment) (thats for 2x GTX 485M 2GB)

I have opened the enthrals of my laptop couple times for cleaning and luckily my desknote uses a similar construct as desktops, with removable GFX boards;

so, final solution = replacement.
temp solution, use VGA standard drivers or not load any game at all.

Thank you VERY much for your help. It has been invaluable; I'll mark the thread as solved.

hi.

it turns out that indeed the GPU was shutting itself down whenever it reached 75C, and since only the GPU shut down it didnt cause a major fault on the operational system per se, only on the video signal feed.

hence, the difficulty on acquiring BSODs and info from them.

I was able to keep the computer on a couple days and even run some games as long as I kept the eye on the GPU temperature.

today the 2 videocards arrived and I successfully was able to swap them for the new ones.

everything is running good and SLI is back on track since i now have 2 working cards.

thank you very very much!
