BSOD, can't read dmp files nor figure out why...

Win 7, 32-bit netbook (Dell). Installed Bluetooth for my new HP mobile printer. When dongle is inserted to a USB port, blue lights flash (as they should) and when I hit 'print' it generally gives me the finger, err, BSOD. Two files are created but I can't open either of them.

Error on blue screen is, IRQL not less or equal (left out the underlines).

The blue screen lasts maybe 7 seconds then I am given Windows options. Not much time to read more than a few lines

The tech person at HP who has been dealing with my printer issues is off for a two-week vacation but I did email her about this before she left. She was clueless so I knew i needed Windows pros.

The netbook has never blue screened before and tonight I left the dongle in to write down the blue screen error. Otherwise, I only put it in to print though it only gave me Windows test pages. Not sure if those were in queue. I did clear the queue for tomorrow (am on iPad now).

Bottom line is I need to read those files to see what is erring. Then, maybe, just maybe, 'we' can fix it.

We do need the actual DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.


To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Thank you. I can't read the files as they aren't compatible with any program.

I just printed though I haven't seen what printed. Will do so later.

Tomorrow, when I have more time, I will follow your directions and, hopefully, post the files. If I remember correctly, only one file was in /minidump. The other (as I look it up) is in C:\Users\pinkipad\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-146672-0.sysdata.xml

There are 3 dmp files created on that day within 10 min. of each other, and I zipped them all up. I figured one per crash. Hope this helps. Thank you in advance

All three were Related to BTHPRINT.SYS Bluetooth Printer driver from Microsoft Corporation. I would re-install with newest version.

Thank you so much. That is the newest driver but maybe the HP folks can figure out the issue now. Printed last night, just two pages, without crashing.

OH I reread this and realize you said MS driver not HP. Am off to download and install.

Dongle is in, flashing, but then it just stays blue. Will try to print after the upgrade. Thank you

Edit: went to you link you provided but could not find a link to download the latest driver. Is it hidden??

Still don't find the download link for a driver on that page nor does Google help. Well, it has sites with supposed drivers but I don't trust random links from random sites

I dont have a link, nor the BT driver and you may be able to find it by googling it. Sorry

Might be on your win 7 dvd in compressed form.

tOO MANY SITES CLAIM TO HAVE IT BUT THEY AREN'T TRUSTWORTHY BY MY EYES. Sorry for caps.
