BSOD - Display Driver Timeout

I'm officially stumped trying to get this figured out. Over the past two weeks, my PC started to get BSOD's all the time, and it seems to be the ATI driver, which has been stable since it came out.

I've attached a minidump of the latest crash. Can anyone help me get this diagnosed?

- Win 7 Home Premium X64
- Upgraded from Win Vista [shockingly, no problems until now]
- OEM Install

- The system itself is about 2 years old, built around a QX9650 and ATI 4890.
- OS install is about a year old, and in good condition (not installing many programs on the primary drive, and keeping the registry in good shape)

OS was fine until about two weeks ago. Only thing I did was a bunch of windows updates [I have since system restored, which wiped out almost all my dumps...]. Heat is NOT a likely cause (watercooled) either. Hence why I'm stumped, as nothing obvious comes to mind.

Also tried 10.12 CCC drivers for ATI, with same results. Recent system restore returned to 10.4, which again, was stable for months before this cropped up.

Also, both games and video playback can randomly cause the issue. Seen it happen in 5 minutes, and seen it happen after 90. Seems totally random near as I can tell.

PERFMOM doesn't seem to recognize MSE as my AV. Figured that deserved a mention...

Dump indicate that A TDR error occured (0x116)

This is usually caused by bad RAM/PSU/GPU/driver

- Boot into safe mode with networking
- Uninstall the ATI drivers including Catalyst Control Center
- Use driver sweeper to remove leftover ATI display driver files Guru3D - Driver Sweeper
- Install the latest drivers ATI Radeon
- Reboot into normal mode

^^ That was the first thing I did, which had no effect; just re-installed 10.12 though, so we'll see.

EDIT

To clarify, I installed the driver ONLY, not CCC.

Use driver sweeper before installing the driver

Always do. Issue remains even with a totally clean 10.12 driver install without CCC.

Attached latest crash debug; the latest entry is with the 10.12 drivers...

I've done most everything possible to rule out software; I'm suspecting my 4890 is on its way out. Problem is, I have nothing else to test with, as my 9800 GX2 I used to have died ages ago. And I cleaned my case about 2 months ago, so its not a dust problem...

This started out of the blue, so I'm really at a loss on this one...

As an appendum, I put in a support ticket with XFX. Hopefully, I'll have a new card to test, to at least rule out the hardware...(If I'm REALLY lucky, I'll get a 5770 or something with DX11 :D )

Well, seems to be GPU isolated; since my last report 10 hours ago, doing nothing video/game related, system is perfectly stable. Until XFX gets back to me, doesn't look like theres much I can do...

If anyone else has any ideas in the meantime, I'd love to hear them...

EDIT

Just for kicks, downloaded Speedfan. I get one generic "System" reading of 94C, which is obviously far too hot. Unless thats a bad sensor, I'd take a guess thats the GPU temp. I'll test tomorrow and see if that temp goes up while in game. If so, guess that means the GPU is overheating, huh?

Overheating could be the cause, the heat may have damaged the GPU

As another update: Did a CPUz report, and the GPU temp is listed at a normal 61C, so its possible speedfan is reading a dummy sensor...have not tested ingame yet, although I plan to make an attempt tomorrow.

Any recomendations on a program to log GPU temperatures while in game?

Well, used ATI Tray Tools to log GPU temps in game; start temp of 61, end temp (at BSOD) maxed at 77. Given the temps matched what CPUz was reporting, I guess temperatures aren't the problem...

Any other thoughts? I'm stumped trying to even figure out why this started in the first place...
