Solved BSOD during install Win 7 Professional sp1 from OEM DvD

The errors I found by searching the web mention video driver problems, but the driver would have to be on the DvD, the hard drive is blank.

error near the top of the BSOD.

'The driver is mismanaging system PTEs.'

Technical informaiton:

*** Stop: 0x000000DA (0x00000504, 0xc021C8E4, 0x00000004, 0x00007239)

This happens just a second or two after the location screen settings comes up. I don't have a chance to enter anything.

The computer had Vista on it. A hard drive backup enclosure wiped the drive. So I am putting Win 7 on it. It is an Acer E1400, Model Aspire X1700. 3 gigs of ram, 2.0 GHz CPU. With a 1 gig video card. The VGA port was disabled by Acer before I bought the computer new several years ago.

When I did such installs, at my previous several jobs, I didn't encounter errors like this. So I have no idea what could be wrong.

Is there a way to get this install completed ?

Is the hardware too old for Win 7 ?

The dvd I have is OEM Win 7 professional with service pack 1.

Do a check disk.
Boot from win 7 installation disk, go to repair and launch a CMD window.
Type
chkdsk c: /f
Pay attention on the results, specially bad blocks and / or bad clusters.

If you had win Vista on it, win 7 should install on it.
All OEM license is valid for only one computer, so if you had it installed on another computer and activated, it won't activate on a different computer.

Did you installed 32 or 64 bits version? With a Celeron CPU and 3G of memory you should install 32bits.
The error seems to be associated with a wrong driver. On BIOS, disable Firewire.
Try to launch safe mode and see if you can finish installation.

To install any hotfixes/updates/drivers into the installation media, you can use this:

View attachment UPDATEWIN7.zip

Put any hotfixes/updates into the UPDATESx64 folder. Put any Drivers into the DRIVERSx64 folder.

Copy your installation media onto a hard drive.

Rt click and run as admin on the .cmd file, which then asks you to browse to the installation media on your HD.

I can get to safe mode, but I don't see repair in the choices.

The install fails and goes right to bsod. So I cannot get to anything like a command line window. The hdd is blank. This is the only computer I have tried to install to.

Its possible the backup enclosure I was trying to use to read this hdd with simply deleted the partition of the hdd... and its no longer formatted. The hdd is in my old Vista case. Happily I backed up that hdd before all of this started.

I have Hirens and was going to check for format/partition later today. I have other things taking up my time, relatives, and probably wont be able to do work on this until around 7 PM my time.

32-bit computer and 32-bit version of Win 7.

I don't remember Firewire in BIOS, but there is a Firewire connector on the back of the case.

Oh, safe mode, nothing else, it just hangs. Safe mode with networking, same bsod. Boot normally from dvd, bsod. i can see the location and time zone setting screen for about 1 to 3 seonds, then it goes to bsod.

The reseller suggested I use the cd that came with the computer to install drivers with... no cd came with it and no system is loaded.

Okay, nothing labeled FireWire in the BIOS; however, there is a 1394 cntroller. I disabled that.

The hard drive was unallocated, no partition. It is now allocated as the Primary, with my Hirens15.x cd. I then did the following.

Safe mode: bsod

Safe mode with networking: STOP: c00000221 unknown hard error \SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

Safe mode with command line: bsod

640 x 480 display, bsod

debugging mode: bsod

Also disabled in BIOS: Intel EIST and Intel XD BIT.

Enabled: Memory Hole Mapping, Sata Controller. Doesn't matter if I choose ACHI or Native IDE.

I used Hirens to check the hard drive, no bad blocks.

Since here is nothing on the hard drive, this looks to me like a bad dvd.

The vendor of the dvd has emailed me and stated they can send a replacement if I think that is the problem.

So if you are suggesting I get that, then the dvd is a problem.

Install Windows on the big NTFS.

Since they are sending me a replacement dvd, I would feel very uncomfertable using the license key from the first dvd on this file. But thanks for your help. I'm going to go ahead and mark this resolved.

I hope the new dvd doesn't have the same problem. If it does, I'll just ask them for my money back and ship them back the two dvds.

Somewhat of an update: they took off the license key for the second dvd.

Before I started again, I opened up the desktop case, took out all cards, and blew on them to get dust off, along with the motherboard connectors. I only had a video card and two ram DIMMS. No spots for anything else.

It loads and I get 'Windows is Starting'. After 45 minutes, I didn't have time to wait, but I will on Thursday, so I shut the computer off. At least it didn't bsod this time.

Apparently I have a hard ware problem. Sometimes when I boot; right after the Del for Bios and F12 for boot manager' message appears I hear 3 short beeps. Or 3 short beeps and 1 slightly longer beeps. Or no beeps.

Next week I'll take it apart and use canned air to clean it out and try again.

Cmos battery was dead. No time to work on the computer, I have replaced the battery, until Saturday evening or Monday. I have a small tree decoration that uses two cr2032 batteries. I swapped the one fomr the desktop to the decoration, the lgihts cwouldn't come on. Swapped the battery out, lights came on.

The Install worked just fine this time. It was a combo of the first dvd having an error in one file in the Wnidows folder, and the cmos battery being mostly dead

Everything is fine now.
