I have a busy rest of the day ahead of me so I can prepare for a meeting tomorrow morning. I will not be able to get to your reports until tomorrow morning. You are first on my priority list for tomorrow morning, though.

Thanks for understanding.

sorry to waste your time. Here are both reports, (I hope),:o
thanks for your patience, joe

Analysis:
All crashes were the same as before, so I dug into your error report logs:
Code:
02/07/2012 16:59	Application Error	Faulting application name: IAStorDataMgrSvc.exe, version: 10.0.0.1046, time stamp: 0x4c8ecfbe

Faulting process id: 0x1258
Faulting application start time: 0x01cd587367526aa2

It appears you are having some issues with your Intel storage drivers. I would not be surprised if that was related to your problem.
Code:
iaStor.sys Mon Sep 13 19:23:32 2010 (4C8ECE94)
As you can see, your storage drivers are nearly two years old. I know there are more up to date versions than that.
  1. Go to Intel® Driver Update Utility,
  2. run the utility,
  3. click on the link for Chipset Family,
  4. scroll down and select Standard Version.
  5. There is a page that loads with information on other Intel drivers for your system including Intel storage drivers. You may have to let it load for 10-15 seconds before it displays your particular drivers link.
  6. Go to that link, download the drivers, and install them.

Hi Mike
thanks, I installed the Intel storage drivers as suggested and restarted W7. I opened the Intel Rapid Storage management utility and clicked 'System Report'. There followed 3 BSOD screens. One suggested disable caching and shadowing- can you comment on that please?
I had to use Startup repair to return to Windows at which point Windows reported "OCZ driver installed successfully".
What would suggest to you that their might be a fault with the SSD itself after all these tests and updates?
thanks for your patience, joe

You're welcome, and no worries. :)

There may be an option in your BIOS to disable memory shadowing and caching. Have you checked to see if doing so helps?

Also, do you have any 3rd party backup software installed? If so, remove it to test.

If you need help with your BIOS settings, please fill in your system specs in your profile and not in a post in this thread: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/180324-system-info-see-your-system-specs.html

Hi Mike
there are no such BIOS options. The OCZ policy (in device manager) has the option 'Write-caching policy': enable/disable. I think 'Shadowing' refers to 'System Restore' settings..?
We've worked hard all week on this and it seems we've tried everything here so it might be time to look for a replacement SSD..?
all the best, joe

Mike
some SSD's have 'test' programs to check for errors. Do you know of one for the Vertex 3? I searched but found nothing,
cheers, joe

If you cannot find a testing tool through OCZ Technology then there probably is not a tool for your SSD specifically. You may try CrystalDiskInfo - Software - Crystal Dew World, although I do not know whether it works for sure on SSDs. It appears to support them based on a warning on the download site about SSD firmware needing to be updated for Crucial M4s (a problem we are well aware of on SevenForums).
The CrystalDiskInfo software I found with the help of usasma and his SSD steps.
