[BSOD] - kernel_data_inpage_error

10 days ago I installed Windows 7 on a new SSD(OCZ Vertex 3 120gb).
I get what appears to be random freezes where the only thing that is still functional being the mouse, after a while it ends in a kernel_data_inpage_error BSOD.

When the PC reboots it fails to find any of my hard drives. So I shut it down for a minute and reboot it, where it then successfully boots into Windows.

The SSD is running in AHCI mode.

System spec:

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.110408-1631)
GA-P55A-UD3
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.3GHz
4096MB DDR3 RAM
ATI HD5770
OCZ vertex 3 120GB(OS disk)

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.



To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
OK your way out.
Reboot if changes have been made.

Okay there are no minidumps included there.
Were there none located in c:\windows\minidump?

My first guess is this is likely a SDD firmware issue (without seeing a dump file)

Minidumps where not enabled so I would have to wait until I get another BSOD before it dumps right?

I'm running firmware version 2.06 which seems to be the latest version.
To update it I need to boot it from a different disk. Will have to find a way to solve that.

It was just a first guess, if you are willing to wait on another crash to occur it might be best to give us a dump file to look at first.

Just found a newer firmware version.
Might as well try to update it while I wait for the BSOD

yeah it certainly can't hurt anything either. When SSD's are having read issues I've generally found firmware updates to be good news bringers.
I don't normally jump straight to 'update firmware' for most things, but it's given me good results with many ssd's.

Successfully updated the firmware.
Will see how this goes.

Been 4-5 days now and not a single crash. The firmware update seems to have helped.

The firmware version I updated to was 2.09(updated from 2.06) for future reference.
