BSOD memory mgmt and other woes

Hi,

I purchased a new bespoke PC a month ago and have had random BSOD's from the start. Initially they were at start up in the morning and after a couple of BSOD's it would be stable the rest of the day, over the last couple of weeks stability has deteriorated to the point I've reinstalled Windows 7 twice, the most recent being this weekend where I decided to format hard disk, play it safe and leave it with just base O/S install, PS2 keyboard and mouse, no internet/USB devices and just run it like that to see what happened. It was stable for 24 hrs and I plucked up the courage to plug in USB pen drive to copy a file to the PC, no issue at the time.

Booted the PC today and initially it was ok and I left in running, when I checked this evening it was sitting on start up repair! Half a dozen BSOD's later and in trying to get the minidump files off to post here (from my 2nd PC), it now doesn't register the pen drive in any USB port and BSOD'd on one attempt when I connected it.

NB. A number of the BSOD's quoted memory management, but I didn't see them all so can't say they were all the same.

Oddly, I've also now started to get app crashes, (Windows Explorer / Control Panel windows) and Windows Media Centre and WMP appear to either crash or cause BSOD when started.

WMP also gives the following "C:\windows\system32\nlaapi.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error" - if it doesn't BSOD at the time it does seem to start WMP ok when you accept the error.

Aside from the basic O/S install the only thing that's been connected is the USB pen drive, it seems too obvious and a possible red herring, hopefully the minidump's will shed some light. Much appreciate any help as I really love Windows 7 and this is spoiling the enjoyment a little, appreciate in might not be Windows fault of course!

I would download memtestx86 and run it for at least 5 passes\

Also you might want to run cpu-z and check the memory and SPD tabs. To help make sure that all memory chips are same mfg, etc.

Some say that Memtest86+ 4.00 is a better memory tester.

You should also take a look at your temps using SpeedFan. The absolute values shown are to be taken with a grain of salt, but if temps start to rise under certain conditions or connection of certain equipment, or blocking of vents/fans by using a laptop on the lap or the bed, then SpeedFan will help you recognize the heat factor.

OK, perhaps not the results we were expecting....

Ran memtest86 +4.00 all day today, 9 passes and no errors.

I've also been running speedfan for the last hour since I could get back on the PC and although I'll admit I don't know exactly what I'm looking at/for, the Temp1, 2 & 3 readings range between 31-43C and Core 0-3 range between 42-36C. As there's nothing on the PC aside from O/S I've struggled to really stress it, the temps per pretty static though for all that I could do.

No BSOD's today for the hour or so Windows was running this morning and the same again this evening.

Still getting odd messages when starting apps (WMP and others) stating " ... is not designed to run on Windows or contains an error" - but when accepting the messages the apps start anyway.

I haven't run the Hitachi drive fitness test as when I was about to burn the image I got one of above messages and tbh have bottled out of using it in case it caused further problems - probably just me being paranoid I know!

CPU-Z showed the memory is all consistent brand/model which was reflected in memtest if I interpreted correctly.

One possibly significant point is that the USB pen drive that I was having problems with yesterday still goes unregistered in any port, but I connected my Buffalo external HDD and it installed the driver and runs fine.
NB. the same USB pen drive works without issue in my other (XP) PC.

All very strange, it doesn't give anyone a lot to go on so I might try and install some apps later/tomorrow and see if I can induce a BSOD or something else to give a lead.

If there's any other tests I can perform that might help diagnosis let me know and I'll give them a try.
