[Solved] BSOD on most manual shut downs and at random other times

Hi there.

I've been having frequent BSODs for about a week now. I did a fresh install of Windows a few days ago and updated all my drivers but the problem persists. I ran MemTest for 9 passes with no problems. It happens most often when I try to shut down. It hangs on the shut down screen then finally blue screens. It also happened a few times while idle during the night while I was sleeping.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
use .trap on that value
Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)

Stop message 0x0000007F Descriptive text: UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP
Usual cause: There is a hardware or software problem. This is usually caused by a hardware failure.

You are currently overclocking your computer above max speed, overclocking causes the system to become less stable and reliable. Please set to default.

Huh, that's odd. I haven't done any over-clocking that I know of. I'll look into that. I'll update those drivers too. Thanks for the info. :)

Edit: looks like those drivers were already up to date. I'll look into the over-clocking thing.

Also it has been noted that you dont have any Anti-virus installed, we recommend:

Microsoft Security Essentials.
Recommended from a strict BSOD perspective, compatibility & stability
compared to other antiviruses/internet security software.

:ar: Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows

Run a full system scan once installed.

Please also download and run Malwarebytes:

:ar: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/

Do not start the free trial of Malware Bytes; remember to deselect that option when prompted.

Also your ASmedia drivers are outdated:

asmtxhci asmtxhci.sys Tue Feb 21 08:53:58 2012
asmthub3 asmthub3.sys Tue Feb 21 08:54:06 2012
Either update through manufacturers website or here:

:ar: http://www.asmedia.com.tw/eng/e_products_list.php?item=83&cate_index=0

Also if the iastor drivers are uptodate please use these ones as it is these drivers causing BSOD:

:ar: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=21730

You need: File name: iata_enu.exe

cheers

Alright, I installed the iastor drivers and went into my BIOS and made sure my CPU was clocked at 3.5GHz

I couldn't find where to download those ASmedia drivers in the link you posted ( ASMedia Technology Inc. ????) I found them on Asus's site, but the installer from them won't run for some reason.

Good work. :)
Have you installed Microsoft Security Essentials and ran Malwarebytes?

Try updating the drivers through Device manager:

:ar: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/97061-driver-install-device-manager.html

Also ensure you have all the latest Windows updates installed, look at optional updates also for ASmedia Drivers.

Monitor the BSOD issue now you have the iastor drivers / overclocking sorted, post back a new log if you experience another BSOD.

cheers

Dave
