Solved BSOD on start up error 0x0000003b

New member
My computer was working fine for a little less then a week, but it would crash once in awhile. Now when i start up normally i get frozen and got a blue screen error. The error was SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION 0x0000003b and caused by driver ntoskrnl.exe.
I got this info using the blue screen viewer. I had some more blue screens different errors but they don't show up now since i tried doing the windows repair. I was not able to do a system health report. It gave me the error that the address could not be found. I downloaded the jcgriff mini dump thing and ran it. It will be attached here. Hope someone can help me fix this.

Thanks

Device Concerns:
Code:
Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller	PCI\VEN_1B6F&DEV_7023&SUBSYS_50071458&REV_01\4&12F0DF6B&0&0048	The drivers for this device are not installed.
Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller	PCI\VEN_1B6F&DEV_7023&SUBSYS_50071458&REV_01\4&BEC1B70&0&00A9	The drivers for this device are not installed.
Security Processor Loader Driver	ROOT\LEGACY_SPLDR\0000	This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed.
Ethernet Controller	PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_E0001458&REV_06\4&2BD43E08&0&00A8	The drivers for this device are not installed.
Make sure the above drivers are installed from your motherboard support site. Do not install any of the utilities software.

Software Concerns:
Security Software: ??? Make sure to install security software. I recommend either of these:
After installing your security software, update it, and then run full scans today with each program. Report back the results of the scans.

Analysis:
It is difficult to find patterns with only one .dmp file. Based on the Device Concerns listed above, I suspect a graphics card/DirectX problem. DirectX comes installed with Windows, so this may indicate Windows corruption. It may also be that you have corrupted drivers or a graphics card hardware problem.

Follow the steps for Diagnosing basic problems with DirectX. To re-install your display card drivers as outlined in the DirectX link, use the following steps.

  1. Download the drivers you want for your display card(s)
  2. Click Start Menu
  3. Click Control Panel
  4. Click Uninstall a program
  5. For NVIDIA:
    • Uninstall the NVIDIA Graphics Driver (this should uninstall all NVIDIA software and drivers)
    • Restart your computer
    • Make sure NVIDIA 3D Vision Driver, NVIDIA 3D Vision Video Player, NVIDIA HD Audio Driver, and NVIDIA PhysX System Software are not still listed under Uninstall a program through Control Panel
    • If any remain of the above, uninstall one at a time
    • If asked to restart after uninstalling any of the above, do so, and continue uninstalling any remaining NVIDIA items until all are removed
  6. Restart your computer after uninstalling drivers for all display cards
  7. Install the driver you selected for the display cards once Windows starts

Remember to try multiple versions of the graphics drivers, download them fresh, and install the freshly downloaded drivers.

I was trying to install those drivers, but the way the gigabyte website gives you drivers is very annoying. Some of the folders don't even have install wizards for the drivers. I'll give this another try.

About security, I tried installing Microsoft security essentials, but I was in safe mode and it did not allow me to install it. And I couldn't get normal to work. I'll try to scan them if I can download it.

When I try the sfc /scannow (repair windows then command prompt) I tells me I have to restart to complete another scan that I already have. Not sure if that is from the other day or not. So maybe I should try verify only. I did get a few more dumps today because of new blue screens. So I'll upload those ASAP. The only problem is that when I try to boot up and hit F8 to get into safe mode I get a message saying something like "The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum." Not sure if I did something wrong and how I would fix that.

I did recently install a fresh Nividia Driver and that did not fix any problems that I know of, but i could be wrong. I'll keep trying once I am able to get into Safe mode.

EDIT #1 : I am currently running windows defender. It is taking forever. When i tried running Malabyte it would crash. So I'm just letting defender do its stuff. I tried installing usb controller driver but it refuses to install saying another driver has to finish its installation first with an error of 1600 or something around that. The defender may take awhile. So I'll get back to you asap. And when i ran the jcgriff DMP It was running, but slow and then I got a blue screen. So I have a couple more dumps that I would like to upload as soon as i can. Thanks

EDIT #2: I tried sfc /scannow and sfc /verifyonly both once and I have had no results, except that everything is fine.

I would like to add these DMPs that I just finished doing. Mabye you can take a look at these and debug them and get more out of them? I am in the process of doing another sfc /scannow. I did not touch the folder when I did this the second time. And I don't know if this has anything to do with this, but my computer is running very slow when it normally runs a lot faster. Thanks

I Had the same problem!

1st choice is to system restore or use CMD and type
sfc /scannow

The sfc command is a CMD that can be used to verify and replace important Windows system files.

I have tried scan now once and will keep trying. And I'm hoping we could get a better clue of what's going on by the few more dmps I uploaded in my previous post there. I'm going to keep trying these suggestions though.

EDIT #1 : running Malwarebytes and defender full scan for both. I will report what I find when I'm done, but I'll keep checking this thread. I find that my computer is running a lot quicker in safe mode.

Ok I just finished sfc /scannow for the second time, and it found nothing wrong. I will try it after I restart the computer. I ran both security Apps and Malwarebytes found some things (Log is attached to this) and defender found nothing wrong. I removed what it told me was wrong. Maybe someone sees a connection between this and the dmps or maybe this is something totally different, I don't know. I am now going to run /scannow for the 3rd time once i restart.

EDIT #1 : I havn't got a blue screen in normal mode so far, but the computer is going so very slow. It is not that slow in safe mode though.

You still need to install the drivers for the above devices. Did your motherboard come with an installation disc, by chance? The drivers on such a disc will be out of date, but at least they will be installed. We can update them later.

Analysis:
I did not recommend enabling Verifier. If you are getting help from another forum that did, please provide the link to the thread in that forum so we know what steps you have done.

If you enabled Verifier yourself without others' help, please disable it now: Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right click Command Prompt -> Run as administrator -> Type the following command and then Enter:
verifier /reset
-> Restart your computer.

Alright sorry about that. Just got both USB controller drivers installed and turned off verifier. I am not sure where I saw verifier, but I guess I was wrong about it helping, sorry about that. So with verifier turned off and the drivers installed what should I do next. Because my computer when it is not in Safe Mode runs very slow for some reason. And I'm assuming that I'll keep getting blue screens. I could test it and see if I get more blue screens? And then leave those DMPs if you would like. Thanks for the help.

well I tried the cleanup start up and it ended up running fine by its own without the services disabled. I was testing then decided to turn them all on and it seems to be running fine. If I have any more BSODs I'll let you know what I was doing and all the debug stuff. Thanks

So everything was looking good when I was browsing the internet and stuff like that. Then when i was playing TF2 for maybe 15 mins I crashed again with the bug code of 0xc4 and then when I rebooted into safe mode I got another error before I got even into safe mode. I think the error was 0x1e or 0xe1 something like that if I can remember correctly. So I went to blue screen viewer and did not see the DMPs in there. I ran jcgriffs BSOD thing and I have it attached to this reply. I do feel like this computer is getting better because I was able to go on it for awhile before it crashed in TF2. It was running at normal speed too, so it is not slow anymore. Got any ideas?

C4 means Verifier was enabled. Have you disabled it since that crash?

Unfortunately, the .dmps were not generated with the new crashes. The c4 crash report in Event Viewer shows that it was partially generated in the MEMORY.DMP file. It occurred at 16:50:59.000, or 4:50:59 PM, your time. Has Verifier since been disabled? If not, go through the steps to disable it again.

Yes when you told me to disable it before I did disable it, but I'll go do it again. Then whats next? thanks for all the help.

EDIT #1: Well I am assuming when you talked about 4:50:59 PM you are talking about yesterday? Unless because the system clock is off (which it was). And yes I did disable verifier yesterday and when I went to disable 2 mins ago I wrote "Verifier /reset" and it said No settings were changed. So I am assuming it was off already. I'll see if I can perhaps get another BSOD and get the bug code down for you.

started testing like I said and immediatly got a BSOD when I entered the game. It seems the DMP was recorded on this one. I'm gonna send you a picture of the blue screen and the Event viewer I just generated. I rebooted again and went into a game, but I could not get a blue screen. I'll keep trying, but you can take a look at those files.

EDIT 1: I assume you don't even need pic because it came out terrible. So you can just look at DMP files

Analysis:
Your most recent crash blames hardware directly. Run some hardware checks.
  • If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

  • If you have an SSD, make sure the following are up to date:
    • SSD firmware
    • BIOS Version
    • Chipset Drivers
    • Hard disk controller drivers/SATA drivers
    • If you have a Marvell IDE ATA/ATAPI device, make sure the drivers are up to date from the Intel site or Marvell site and not from your motherboard/vendor support site.

  • Run all but the advanced tests with SeaTools for HDDs.
  • Monitor temperatures during the following tests.
Use the following programs to monitor the temperatures.

  • Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).

       Warning
Before you proceed with the following, answer these two questions: Are you still under warranty? Does your warranty allow you to open up the machine to check hardware? If you are unsure of the answers to these questions, contact your system manufacturer. :warn:WARNING: The steps that follow can void your warranty!!!

For Part 3: If You Have Errors: If you swap any memory components, follow these steps for ESD safety:
    1. Shut down and turn off your computer.
    2. Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
    3. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
    4. Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working. If you do not have an anti-static workbench, desk, or pad, you can use your computer tower/case by finding a metal hold in it, such as a drive bay.
Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.
