Hello,

I've been playing Dark Souls 3 since launch (11) and getting BSODs after a while of gameplay.

When the game came out I had the latest nvidia driver but was getting bad performance, so I downgraded the driver to a "magical version" that supposedly increased performance in older cards. During the installation of the older driver I got a blue screen error(I don't remember which error because this was the first time it happened). Since I did not get any better results, I went back to the latest version.

After this, I was getting constant blue screens after around 30 minutes of game, always the same error, stating "ntfs.sys".

Then I tried some other video driver versions but nothing got rid of the problem. Finally yesterday I formatted my C: drive and reinstalled windows(Dark Souls 3 is in the D: drive) with the latest graphics driver and had o problems. Today I got another BSOD, same error, but this time no ntfs.sys showed on the screen. My only idea is that the HDD is gone bad and needs replacing.

Before I reinstalled windows i did the chkdsk /r and nothing bad came up, however HDSentinel days the C Drive had 60% health(around 15 bad sectors and some read errors I think).

Have a ****ing weekend, here hoping I can figure this shit out.

So I updated my nvidia driver to the new hotfix version, disabled driver verifier, and kept an eye on the temps. I played for around 3 hours and no crashes. The CPU temp was around 75° and the GPU didn't go over 84°.

I also installed WinDbg to study the dump and found some stuff saying HD failure, so it's probably the HDD anyway. Still waiting for an answer from someone more experienced in this stuff.

You are running an ASUS OEM Product ID (PID) on an ASUS retail boar.
This makes your installation counterfeit.
Troubleshooting a counterfeit installation is useless as it is not known what has been modified to your system.
A counterfeit installation contains heavily modified code which causes the system to behave in unexpected ways.
For this reason, analyzing counterfeit systems is unreliable and most analysts won't try it.

I recommend to install a genuine copy of Windows.
If, after you have installed a genuine copy of Windows, you still get BSOD's we'll be happy to assist you.

The 0x7A crash could be related to hard drive failures or firmwares with SSDs, but it regularly is also many other things.

The Forum Rules are clear that no support is provided so I can't provide anymore support than I already have.
If you want support with this problem, I suggest that you clean install a genuine installation of Windows and provide a report of Windows Genuine and Activation Issue Posting Instruction so we can see that you indeed have a genuine installation.
