Solved BSOD running Google Chrome and Planetside 2

BSOD occurs while running Chrome, sometimes Planetside 2, possibly other programs. Not sure which caused the last one (and which will therefore be influencing the .DMP). Message tends to be MEMORY_MANAGEMENT but I've also seen PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. I've run "sfc /scannow", but it always fails to complete unless I run "sfc /verifyonly" first, and even after going through this process, it fails to repair the corrupted files it finds. Not sure of how any of this is linked together. This has caused me a lot of stress, as I'll be relying on my computer a lot this year for study as well and I need it stable.

Welcome to Seven Forums,

AVG contributes in BSOD-s, Please remove it using its removal tool from here: Uninstallers (removal tools) for common antivirus software - ESET Knowledgebase

Recommended from a strict BSOD perspective, compatibility & stability compared to other antiviruses/internet security software. It is free and lightweight:-
   Warning
:ar: Do not start the free trial of Malware Bytes; remember to deselect that option when prompted.

Run a full scan with both (separately) once downloaded, installed and updated.

Number down items at start-up. Keep only your anti-virus, this also improves the time for logging into windows.
Disk Check on your hard drive for file system errors and bad sectors on it.
If you have an SSD, make sure the following are up to date:
  • SSD firmware
  • BIOS Version
  • Chipset Drivers
  • Hard disk controller drivers/SATA drivers
  • If you have a Marvell IDE ATA/ATAPI device, make sure the drivers are up to date from the Intel site or Marvell site and not from your motherboard/vendor support site.
Perform a System File Check to check the integrity of all protected Windows 7 :
  1. Click on the start :orb:
  2. Type CMD on Search
  3. Left click and Run as Administrator
  4. Type
    Code:
    SFC /scannow
Full tutorial here:
Upload a screenshot of your hard disk using CrystalDiskInfo:
Make a hard drive test from the hard drive manufacturers website:
Take memtest. Run for 8 passes and test each stick in a know good slot for an additional 6 passes.
   Note
Pay close attention to part 3 of the tutorial in order to rule out the faulty stick.

   Information
Errors are sometimes found after 8 passes.

   Tip
Do this test overnight, before going to bed.

If Memtest86+ does not find any errors with ram run Windows Memory Diagnostics for 7-8 passes following its tutorial: Let us know the results.

I've uninstalled AVG, run all the disk, system file (as stated in the original post) and memory checks, installed, updated and run all recommended anti-virus/spyware/malware programs, cleared all but one open-on-startup program and installed some driver and Windows updates. Will post again later if I get another BSOD. Thanks for your thorough list of suggestions. This has been a bit of an effort, but something is sure to fix it eventually, even if this doesn't.

Another 2 BSODs: one while running Steam and Chrome, another immediately after logging in after the restart and opening MSE. I've added another .zip file with the all the crash information and such in it from the latest incident. If anyone has enough expertise to pinpoint my problem based on this .zip so that I don't have to go slogging through every possible option only to find that I needed to do something entirely different, that would mean the world to me. For now, I'll have to sleep on it and see what I can get done in the morning.

Memtest found well over 300,000 errors in the first HALF of the first pass alone. I'm heading out now to get another pair of RAM sticks to test so I can confirm that it's the RAM and not the motherboard (which I really hope is the case, because replacing a motherboard sounds like a mother of a task). Thanks for your advice thus far, too. I'd probably be dropping big bucks on tech support or wasting loads of time with customer service trying to get some replacement sticks if it weren't for your help.

Installed Corsair XMS3 in place of Elixir RAM sticks, ran Memtest86+ again and returned zero errors. I'd still give Elixir the benefit of the doubt and chalk the problems up to incompatibility with other hardware as opposed to manufacturing defects, of course. I'll mark this thread as 'solved' if I operate BSOD-free for a week, but otherwise I'll be back, even more distressed and confused and frustrated than I was earlier.

Thanks again for helping me through this, I really hope I'm in the clear!

Haven't had a BSOD since installing the new RAM. Thanks! That's why I marked this thread as 'solved' several days ago.
