BSOD: 'System Service Exception' (Suspect new SSD/AHCI is the problem)

Hi, I've been having some long-standing computer issues since making a few upgrades. In short, my new SSD and AHCI driver seem to be the root of the cause.

I recently had a BSoD about a day after updating to the latest chipset (including AHCI driver!) Any insight into the crash dump (attached) would be greatly appreciated!

I am getting symbol errors in the crash dump (most probably a problem with the microsoft's symbol server) so I cannot dig it to depth, but it shows a stop 0x3B. A 0x3B BSOD is mostly a memory related issue (there are some other reasons behind it, too, like not updating windows) which means either a failing RAM or a driver passing bad information to the memory.

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M4A78LTM/HelpDesk_Download/ lists a chipset that is too old to be installed, it is of 2009/09/29. So no question to install it, and the driver that you have installed seems to be OK, apparently.

But uninstall AMD Overdrive. AODDriver4.3. This one is not a safe thing to use.

apply the SSD to another unused SATA port on the motherboard. See how it goes. Let us know.

Hi, thanks for taking a look.

To be clear, I no longer receive the atapi error, but instead the attached (below) in its place. Does this mean anything different? It still occurs when the system hangs for a long time:

I will try changing the SATA port of the SSD, but unfortunately I don't hold out too much hope for that as I already previously moved it from port 2 to 1 (or 1 to 0, I'm not quite sure of the numbering convention). I also replaced the SATA cable. I only have one more usable port where my DVD drive is currently plugged in, though I'll try it anyway.

I am not sure I can uninstall AMD overdrive? It seems to be part of the Catalyst Control Suite, so I can't see it separately on Add or Remove Programs, or on Device Manager. I have never used it though.

Finally, I ran Memtest+ again overnight to double check my RAM... no issues

I welcome any other suggestions, else I will see how the SATA port re-arranging goes.

When the installed storage controller driver is pciide (SATA/IDE mode), then it shows as IDEport; and when the installed storage controller driver is the RAID mode driver, it shows the same port as RAIDport. So changing the name does not change the issue, it is being originated from the same source.

Now, what the source may be. It may be ....

1. A storage controller driver
2. A bad SATA cable
3. A failing SATA port
4. A failing disc
5. A failing motherboard
6. A corrupted windows installation.

As far as I am seeing, the first three possibilities are already checked. Now, you have to concentrate on the remaining three. So,

First, as we cannot apply the conventional disc check tools on a SSD, it would be better to apply any other physical disc there, either a HDD or a SSD. See how it goes. If the issue resolves with the other one, the issue is with the new SSD. But if the issue continues, come th the second place.

Second, perform a clean reinstall, start everything afresh. If the issue resolves, well and good. But if not, the final option, as far as I can say, is ....

Third, apply any other motherboard.
