Solved BSOD While Gaming 0xA0000001 Atikmdag.sys

Ok, just played for an hour with a live stream in the background (forgot to turn it off) and no BSOD. I don't want to say it's fixed yet because it was only an hour, but that's already 3x as long. I will try the game again later. But to be honest I'm not getting my hopes up :P BF3 crashed within 10 minutes of playing a few weeks ago, played again the next day for 1 hour and no BSOD. So like I said, it is still to early too say if this is working or not. I will still run memtest tonight and see how that does. Here are the temps from playing today, in case anyone is curios. Also, for essenbe, here is the minidump file you wanted to see. It is not the most recent because system restore deleted all the newer ones. It shouldn't matter though because WhoCrashed showed every single error being the same.

Currently I have 2 4GB sticks, so if it is a slot issue, there are 2 other slots... Though my 212 EVO might be blocking some slots, I don't remember.

So I guess to recap. I need to mess around with a few driver versions and see if that resolves anything. Then I need to run memtest tonight, and if that comes up error free then I can try another PSU. And if the problem persist I can either buy a 760, or send in my card. But at this point who knows, it could be something else entirely.
Yes mate as essenbe says and I ma just wondering re the slots now I know my board has a slightly different "procession" order in that slot 2 going away from the CPU is actually the first "starter" slot and not as what one would think it usually is - the one nearest the CPU.
I am only pointing this out because you mentioned slot one is blocked by the cooler??

Having said all that I suspect the problem is elsewhere:)

Hmm missed this post wasn't looking just out of pure interest I am wondering what the volts come up with using HW Info?? as I am a bit of a fan of double checking as I know that there have been times when the BIOS has been out of whack with one of the software utilities readings ie Speccy or CPUID and HW Info for that matter:)

Ran Memtest last night, no errors. Later today I'm going to leave FarCry3 open for a few hours and see if it will crash. So the driver may or may not have fixed it, I just don't want to say so for sure because sometimes it can take longer than 1 hour. But FC3 did crash within the first 10 mins last time. It is good to know that it is not the RAM though :D

The crash dump you posted in post #41 is of 01/06.

If there is any further BSOD after altering the display driver, let us know.

And RAM was even not a suspect.

Ok, it was just everyone was saying it could be RAM issue, I don't know anything about BSOD's so I'm just doing what you all tell me to do :P I will do more testing and either report back with good news or bad news. And yeah, it is outdated I don't have any recent because system restore deleted them all.

So my question to you Arc is that you believe the issue was or is software related only?

Here is what I believe about your issue.
Stop 0xA0000001 is inherent with ATI/AMD display. It may be the display driver, or even the GPU.

First apply any other version (better a known good WHQL) of the display driver.

If the display issue continues with multiple version of the driver, unfortunately there is no other way but changing the GPU.

Sorry Arc I probably am to blame for the RAM issue as I think I suggested it in the first place. It was only really to eliminate any hardware stuff. Apologies for the confusion.:o

Please dont take it like that, John. Though it was not very specific in this case, but memtest is never a bad idea. We know that failing memory can cause any issue.

No crashes so far, what I am going to do tonight though is leave FarCry running through the night or something and if no BSOD then I can probably assume the driver fixed it. Thanks everybody for helping, hopefully I can report back tomorrow morning with good news.

Whelp, I did just run it for 4 hours. No crash yet :) I want to say the drivers fixed it, it's funny how simple of a fix it was. If for whatever reason I BSOD again in the next few days I will be disappointed and probably be at a loss as to why. I will wait thought to mark this as solved until a few days just in case something comes up. Thank you all for helping me with this even though the fix was simple. I learned a lot as well and figured out my RAM is working fine XD
