Hi all,

I am trying to install Win7 on my SSD for my laptop, but I need to load USB 3.0 drivers before installing.

However, when I select the right driver and proceed, I get BSOD'd.

I'm going to try different drivers now, but if anyone has different advice, it would be welcomed.
EDIT: Tried drivers from Intel's site rather than laptop manufacturer. No dice.

Error number: 0x0000007E

Cheers

How are you trying to install Windows. Are you using a DVD or a USB thumb drive.

From a USB, hence the need for 3.0 drivers;)

Can't you just install through a USB 2.0 port?

Windows 7 doesn't have USB 3 drivers. Have you tried installing it without worrying about drivers. If the USB drive has been set up properly it should just load without having to worry about drivers.

Can't you just install through a USB 2.0 port?

Unfortunately I have 4 USB 3.0 ports. I've always been fine before, having done at least a dozen fresh installs on this machine.

The only new thing with the machine is the SSD in it, so I might try taking it out.

Windows 7 doesn't have USB 3 drivers. Have you tried installing it without worrying about drivers. If the USB drive has been set up properly it should just load without having to worry about drivers.

I've never set a USB up with drivers beforehand, so I'll try something like this and see where I get to.

So setting the USB drive up like this guide advised worked fine.

Still not sure why I got the BSOD but I guess the problem is solved.

In aid of this thread I also tried taking the SSD out, didn't work.

Thanks for your help all.
