Solved BSOD while playing BFBC2

I was having the same type issues as this. Does punkbuster b continue to run when you exit the game? Mine did and when I would start the game to play again it would cause the game to crash to desktop or BSOD whenever it would reach a certain memory usage. Something rediculous like 26,760k. It usually would use around 3k. I found by going into task manager and ending task on punkbuster b and then starting the game would give me hours of crash free gaming. I was in discussions over this with DICE dev's but since building a totally new rig I haven't had the issue. Hopefully this helps. The realtek issue is true also but supposedly had been fixed.

Is better now

The punkbuster that was released March 9, 2011 V 2.263 started my problems. I uninstalled "PunkBuster Services" from Programs and Features in Control Panel and it seems like things are behaving better... I reinstalled fresh version of pbsvc.exe from evenbalance.

The audio drivers don't seem to be the issue for me, although the realtek onboard audio on our GA-EX58-UD3r boards has been known to cause problems. I disabled all audio devices and played for a while before the crash occurred again. I have submitted a support ticket at evenbalance, but I don't know how long they'll take to get to it.

FizzyCola, please update us on how the fresh install works. You appear to be having the EXACT same problem and the time-frame for the issues is spot on with the issues I'm having. I hate to say it, but I'm glad to see that this isn't just an isolated issue. I looked for a long time for a solution to this issue online before finding this thread. We have a much better chance of solving this problem if more people have it.

Alright, here's an update from me. I contacted EA through their online chat support. I was told to delete my temp files and to adjust my security so that Windows would never notify when programs make changes to my computer. Neither of these suggestions helped me. I also tried a fresh install of PB to no avail.

Ya I just got off with EA their suggestions were do a fresh install, delete PB from the game folder and user/app file, which I did and also clean your recycle bin, then do a fresh install of PB which I did, then they has me run
1. Go to start than run
2, in run type services.msc
3. Scroll down and look for PnkBstr A and B
4. Make sure they say started, if not right click it and allow it to start. You may also click on properties and tell it to run automatically.

I made sure both A and B are running and they both are. Then they had me delete all my windows temp files, about 2 files I could not delete. This helped me run about 10 minutes longer then I crashed again.

Let's go over a check list.

  • Fresh installs don't work
  • Deleting old PB files don't work
  • Deleting old windows temp files don't work
  • Getting a fresh PBsetup and manually doing it does not work
  • Running as Admin does not work
  • Old version does not work.
I also have a ticket in with PB and they have not responded.

EA finally said they could not help me and told me to contact PB.

Anything I am missing?

Still okay

I have played a couple hours more and have not had the problem again.

I have the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Rev 2.0 motherboard and although the bsod was punkbuster it seemed the sound was going into a loop when i would get the bsod

I had also updated the "Realtek Function driver for Realtek Azalia audio chip (Including Microsoft UAA Driver in English edition" from gigabyte.com. The version I installed was R2.54.

I didnt just manually update punkbuster as the release from 3/09/2011 V2.263 started my bsods. I went into control panel and removed the "PunkBusters Services" program and installed a fresh pbsvc.exe downloaded from evenbalance.com.

I hope this maybe helps somebody else...

I have spoken with PB and here is what they told me to do.

Please delete the PB folder from the game installation, then run PBSetup and let it check for updates. Make sure you don't run PBSetup from inside the PB folder.

I did that and still crashed.

I still have an open ticket with them, I suggested to them to scroll back to the preivous update and throw the new one in the trash.

I will keep you posted.

Docellis,

I got the same suggestion from PB this morning. Tried it, and the game lasted 10 minutes. I have a feeling that the problems we are facing are linked to a variety of things inside our similar systems. The people I have found with our problems ALL use the GA-X58A-UD3r motherboard. That being said, fizzyCola has apparently fixed his problem. Try updating your audio driver from Gigabyte's website and keep us up-to-date.

Yep I deleted my older version and uploaded Realtek Function driver for Realtek Azalia audio chip version R2.54 and it still crashes.

I needed to update that driver anyways so at least I did not waste my time.

Alright, same here. Updating the drivers has done no good for me. What antivirus program do you use?

I too am having an issue. sounds very similar. I am using Norton. So it seems that it is not my system so much as a PB update error? or am I reading this incorrectly?

I also uninstalled my anti-virus, still crashed.

So that's not it.

Hi

Same problem for me.
I have the GA-X58A-UD7 motherboard which is the same chip set.
I played BFBC2 for month without any problems, and suddenly last Tuesday it started to crash after 10-15 minutes. The only system change that has been done is the Windows update the very same day. Unfortunately I tried fixing the issue with the Win7 SP1 update, which didn't help. The only thing I got for that is that I am no longer able to make system restore and a rollback to the day before SP1.
Beside I went to the Realtek site and found a newer update there (2.58). That didn't help either.
I have ordered a Soundblaster soundcard to see if it helps.

I installed an Asus soundcard just yesterday and I still have the problem. Let me know if the card works for you.

I suggest everyone to call EA at this number and ask for Tier 2 tech person, that way the more people that call the higher prioity this problem will get - 866-543-5435.

I called them and talked to Tier 2 tech Lane from EA they are getting flooded with this problem, they know about it and have zero fixes at this time because it just happened last Wednesday and they need some time in talking to PB to figure out a fix. EA believes that the last PB patch was corrupted in some manner.

For my time they gave me a $20 coupon at the EA store that I can use toward any game in the future.
Lane at EA was very courteous and professional and was honest, currenlty they don't have an answer but they are working on it.

He said they will post on the BFBC2 EA forum and announce. They advise eveyone to wait for the announcement, which is what I am going to do. There is no need to waste more time configuring my computer when my computer is working fine. Lane did mention and I do know this is true, BFBC2 was made for XP it was not tested for Vista or 7 but they said it does run in those formats and we should not be having this problem.
